X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Reshoots Will Reportedly Last Three Months; Is The Entire Movie Being Reshot?

Early word on Dark Phoenix has not been good and now a new report points to those reshoots lasting even longer than principal photography, a sign that they'll be more extensive than we possibly imagined..

There have been a lot of rumours surrounding X-Men: Dark Phoenix, including poor test screenings, a muddled ending, and even (ultimately unfounded) reports that Fox is planning to scrap it. Now, reshoots which were initially said to last for a matter of weeks to make some minor changes will take a full three months to complete; principal photography lasted three and a half months last year!

Some of this could be down to the busy schedules of the actors involved but this is still an insane amount of time for reshoots and it doesn't bode well that they've basically been extended from two weeks to three months. Based on this, it sounds like Fox could be reshooting pretty much the entire thing, something which would explain why we still haven't seen a trailer or more stills for the movie.

None of this is particularly surprising. Simon Kinberg was in charge of those disastrous Fantastic Four reshoots and Dark Phoenix marks his actual directorial debut. Fox took a huge risk having him helm a movie as big as this one, so the end result not working isn't a surprise, especially as he's so hit and miss as a writer. Don't be shocked if someone else is named as the director of those planned reshoots!

What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts below and stay tuned for further updates.

@knocturnalzen10 - the way he had valid sources that said it was being scrapped entirely (not even being out streaming service) to now them doing three months od reshoots.

I doubt it's 3 months of continuous reshoots, they will be waiting for actors to be available.
For instance Macvoy and Chastain are shooting IT2 so won't be available for a while.

@StormXmen123 - Yeah, that's my impression as well. Actor availability is the reason why the reshoots are happening so late & why the film was pushed to 2019 so availability is probably the same culprit here. I can see production having to work around more obstacles around actors doing other projects than how much the film is actually reshooting.

But with that said, I can imagine the expense this film is enduring just to keep a crew on call through the reshoot schedule. Nothing explodes a production budget than paying folks to sit around waiting to work.

Probably should cancel it, but they have already thrown so much money behind it, they have to try and recoup some

They must be now saying, "F*ck it. We just got sold to Disney so lets just burn as much money as possible between now and when the merger goes through."

Sony, take note: This is what happens when you try to be something you're not.
