EXCLUSIVE: Watch Nicholas Hoult Become Beast In X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Makeup Test

StudioADI has given us a first look at their latest behind-the-scenes video. This one features a makeup test that Nicholas Hoult ("Warm Bodies") underwent for the role of Beast in X-Men: First Class.

"Director Matthew Vaughan really gravitated towards the more lion-like versions of the Marvel Comic Beast. He wanted a clean break from the Kelsey Grammer version. Fur was in, hair was out. Any version of Beast that featured human head hair was too 'rock star', so ADI and Dave and Lou Elsey kept the palette to the feline textures.

Some warm tone break up was introduced to make the skin tone less monochromatic and more alive. The studio stepped in during post production and digitally removed the naturalistic color break up in favor of a more straight forward blue." - Alec Gillis

X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

X-Men: First Class was directed by Matthew Vaughn ("Kick-Ass"), from a screenplay written by Ashley Edward Miller, Zack Stentz, Jane Goldman, and Matthew Vaughn. The cast included: James McAvoy as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr/Magneto, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme/Mystique, January Jones as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult as Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy/Beast, Zoë Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy/Banshee and Lucas Till as Alex Summers/Havok. It earned $353 million at the worldwide box office, on a budget of $150 million.

I don't know...out of the three, First Class's Beast looks, well, more beast.

I just get this generic vibe from this new one. I wish they had of went with more stocky and agile Hank...

I say if you aren't gonna go balls to the wall don't change what wasn't broken Singer. Imagine seeing Hank in the form Jim Lee drew so well. Swinging from crap, Shakespearean quotes out the ass, I'm talking the got nine yards.

Damn, in a perfect world...

you can tell the team worked hard on it... and even if I like it in most shots, there are certain momments where I think the face doesnt have enough hair and makes it look weird to see all that hair in his head, neck and around the face, but then the face looks so clean. It makes it look unnatural.

The whole make-up should make him seen like a real beast, instead of a human person 'dressed' as a beast.

Really don't like this guy as Beast; that body padding looks hokey as hell. They should have just cast someone who is body-appropriate, but when does Marvel every do that.

^ uhhh, Thor, Wolverine, Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America?

Literally the last time someone in the marvel world wasnt body-appropriate was Venom in 2007...and was Sony

Yet again a thumbs down for Singer X-Men stuff. They can't get anything right, at least Singer can't. Beast looks stupid, Wolverine looks stupid, Storm looks stupid, and especially Magneto looks stupid, et. al. The First Class casting and costume was (generally) great, but Singer, from the start, cast the wrong people and dressed them up like idiots.

You guys know we'll never get a proper X film right? Fox is never letting those rights revert back to Marvel.

Hell I don't understand some of you "X-Men" fans. I personally love all the changes made in X1,X2, and First Class. The uniforms and look of DoFP looks amazing so far. And this isn't cause I'm a Singer fanboy but I felt those changes needed to be made so that it could WORK on the screen. Don't mention Marvel Studios to me because they're not perfect and they made plenty of changes as well. No company is. Fanboys will never be satisfied with anything. I never understood why people hated on them. I figured it was because it wasn't like the comics or maybe it was that the comics did it better. Hell, some of you can't appreciate the GREAT story-telling and character interactions from X2 and First Class. And some of you don't understand the difference between comics and film. Not everything works like in comics. Wolverine mask? Beast more agile? Rogue's full powers? Mask would look awkward and unnecessary (he doesn't care who knows his identity) on Wolverine, you would have to make Beast CGI, and translating powers like that is hard even Whedon saids that about Ms. Marvel. If anything I would grab more character stuff rather than just little things like that. Cyclops from the comics would be INCREDIBLE and Singer hated that they killed him in X3. He wanted to expand on him more and he even said it. Sorry to break it for ya. Keep working hard Singer, Vaughn, and crew. Can't wait for DoFP.

And I don't care but I'm saying it. In my personal subjective opinion, the black suits were pretty AWESOME and stealth looking but maybe it's because I like my heroes to wear all black. DoFP has the black armor and cloth to reflect on the apocalyptic future. Professor X and Magneto look terrific.

"the black suits were pretty AWESOME and stealth looking but maybe it's because I like my heroes to wear all black."

Lmfao! Preach huh?

Those black bondage suits were awesome if you are into that sort of thing I guess, but for the rest of us that black leather shit was stupid.

You bitch about us not getting it, but Singer didn't even get it enough to know Rogue should have had a relationship with Raven Darkholme, or the fact Raven is Kurt's mother. There are even more things I could harp on, but I'm done beating that dead horse. You can like these movies because that is your opinion to do so, but don't come in here telling us we don't understand the difference between movies and comics. Not when shit like this is around now...

Movies can play it closer to source than what these X-Men movies have done.

Kelsey Grammar's was the best so far though his interpretation made Beast far too serious.

Bring back the first class beast... this new look hurts my eyes to look at, it's just weird... it looks like he has tried to network that serum and it's done more damage than good. Kelsey grammar was the closest to the source though, maybe they could have gone for an amalgamation of first class and last stand.

Good point Francis. And Avengers proves that "comicy" characters complete with costumes do work very well!
