Fox Approached Jason Reitman About Helming A Solo KITTY PRYDE Movie

Fox were once said to be planning a series of standalone X-Men movies. The critically panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine put a stop to that. Jason Reitman now reveals that he was at one point approached to helm a Kitty Pryde movie which would have been written by Diablo Cody and starred Ellen Page.

The guys over at /Film recently took part in a 10 hour marathon podcast which featured appearances from the likes of Rian Johnson, Damon Lindelof and Bryan Singer. As you can see below, Young Adult director Jason Reitman told the site that Fox wanted him to reteam with writer Dialo Cody and actress Ellen Page (they worked together on Juno) for a solo Kitty Pryde movie.

Jason Reitman revealed that at one point, 20th Century Fox talked to him about possibly directing a Kitty Pride X-Men standalone movie, starring Ellen Page and written by Diablo Cody. The three combined to make the Oscar-winning film Juno, and Reitman also directed Cody’s next script, Young Adult. And while Retiman’s X-film obviously didn’t happen, Page will return in the role for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This particular spin=off could have been interesting, especially if they had explored Kitty's complex relationship with Colossus. While it now seems unlikely that this will ever happen, Ellen Page's Kitty Pryde WILL still return in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Well, that's a pity, 'cause Reitman is obviously an amazing filmmaker, I like Page, too, but GOSH Pryde was so bad-written in Last Stand... It was, like, they just couldn't handle her right, so she is really not that interesting in movie-verse, so why would anyone even care - dull one-dimensional character wouldn't got better even in the hands of Oscar award winners slash nominees.

Or they had to totally ignore her character in Last Stand and re-write the whole thing about it, but it would be weird and strange, so I kinda see why this didn't work out at all in the end.

I hate Fox so much. Worst. Studio. Ever.

Is this real?
I didnt see this coming. Fox wanted a Kitty movie??? and with the Juno director and writer, more Ellen? damm
now is highly unlikely, but some of the rumored spinoffs back in the day were really promising

What would be the point in this? Of all characters.
Smh. But its Fox, so I should expect nothing more.

I like Shadowcat but idk about a solo movie for her. I feel that Wolverine, Gambit, and Deadpool deserve solo movies.

Well the Magneto movie that was planned before it was combined into X-Men: FC sounded cool...

It's not an April Fools joke.

I was listening when he said it during the live podcast on Saturday.

From the sounds of it, Fox was only considering Pryde for a spin-off because "Juno" had just become a huge hit, and Ellen Page was suddenly a "big" star.

I get some of your points, marelpsycho, but not all the movies should be like the typical superhero movie with hero and big villain, you know? lol

a Kitty movie could be targeted to a different audience than the team movie, and Fox would have easily included a Colossus cameo, more a few other familiar faces of the franchise, as a marketing move. Exactly what they are doing now with Jean on The Wolverine

I know Wolverine is a loved character, but Id watch a Kitty movie ten times more than a Wolverine one, specially after the original trilogy

A Nightcrawler solo movie would be [frick]ing good !

I get you, but I still think there are a few more ways to do a movie with these characters by their own.

One solo x-men movie can be more like comedy/drama, instead of an "Epic summer movie" like these studios seem to love to sell.

A movie about Kitty could be abour her origin, maybe some new tragic/intense stuff, who knows? and finally how Xavier recruited her. with a nice happy ending, lol, why not?

it doesnt need a 200 million budget, u know? ;)

seriously? well at least one good thing happened from wolverine origins. i like paige and pryde as a character but the morons who were entertaining this idea should not have jobs anymore, although i'm sure they now have better paying jobs that allow them to make more poor decisions

Assumed it was a april fools joke, but it is Fox so who knows...

I is funny if it is...kinda of like the lady gaga/dazzler rumor..i mean at least 1/2 the people here bought it hook, line and sinker...that says something about the studio itself..

And cast Adrianne Palicki as Rogue!

Diablo Cody was a flavor of the month screenwriter.

I'd sh-t if she were given a superhero film to Juno-ize.
