Gambit was supposed to be released in October 2016 but after director Gore Verbinski walked away from the movie due to apparent scheduling issues, its current release date moved from February 2019 to June 2019. It was previously reported that production would begin on March 19th but with Fox now looking for someone else to take charge of the spinoff, it's been pulled from the studio's schedule.
Now, it's thought that filming will commence in the summer in Montreal, Quebec, the same city that X-Men: Apocalypse was shot in. Whether or not Gambit will still head to New Orleans is now unclear.
Channing Tatum is still attached to star and it's been described as a heist movie which heavily relies on comedy. While there's a very good chance Gambit will be a hit, we should probably forget about seeing a sequel as the Disney/Fox deal will lead to the X-Men characters presumably being rebooted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
