According to Heat Vision, James McAvoy has been cast as young Charles Xavier in "X-Men: First Class!" His previous comic book movie experience was starring in "Wanted" with Angelina Jolie.

Official Synopsis:
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

I am a little mad about this. If it is a reboot then I am fine but if it is still a continuation of the X-Men Universe then I wish Patrick Stewart was in it since he was at the end of Borgins.

oh and also, even though i am upset, james McAvoy is an ok choice, he would probably be a better Magneto. Also I didn't know how young they were going for X-Men First Class. If this takes place 15 years before xmen 1, shouldn't he b like like 40 years old since he was like 55 in Xmen 1. I think James is in like his 30s.

We saw Patrick Stewart at the end of X-men Origins.

We dont know how long this version of Charles will be on screen, it could just be for the beggining of the film.

That's an interesting point CaptainAmerica! It would seem odd for Fox to announce a small part first though.

How young is this first class going to be?

@CapAmerica so you think maybe James will play Xavier discovering his power and then they can have Patrick Stewart come back for the middle and end with digital de-age stuff? I hope so

Not sure, all i remember is reading something about the Magneto film being cancelled and parts of it being incorporated into X-Men First Class. The first half of the film could show the relationship between Charles and Eric, the second half could show them becoming rivals and show Charles' "First Class" of mutants, thus having both a young and older Xavier in the same film.

Maybe :) Like Gaston said, unless Cyclops and all the other X-Men are gonna be 9 years old they will need an older Xavier lol

they could put make up on him you know to age him up

also cyclops could of passed off as a 30 year old in X1

Say Xavier was 50 in X1 and recruits Scott when he was like 15 would make Xavier around 35 when he recruits X Men and James McAvoy is 31 it could work.

McAvoy is a good actor (IMO ) , so I'll give him a shot.

BUT they had better shave his head.

buuuuuuut if we go by wolverine origins it is stewart who is there to collect all the very young mutants at the end.
they basically need to reboot now rather than link it up as a prequel!
if thats what they are going for then fine....im happy if not then it is quite a silly casting choice imo.

Man is this out of left field! I didnt even think we would get word on casting news until summer.

But im still iffy on the casting choice tho. Ive seen Wanted and some other stuff that he has been in. McAvoy is a good actor but im not sure if they'll use him the way he is now... they might age him up a bit or something but we'll just have to wait and see about the other casting choices to see wat direction they'll be going with for the film.

They might kept virtual unknowns for most of the parts, maybe 1 or 2 young names that people kno but im pretty sure they'll go with unknowns for this film.

I think McAvoy's talented, don't get me wrong, but he's only in his early 30's! It just seems like such a miscast, unless we're talking flashbacks only.

i have a feeling this movie is gonna suck because it is extremely rushed. It was just officially announced a few weeks ago and they expect to release it next year.

It's obvious guys, this is a "prequel" but is really a reboot. There is NO continuity in Marvel. It's bad.

Here's my thoughts: This film is also going to explore the early friendship of Charles and Eric, so maybe for the first third (or so) of the movie, they will use a much younger version of those two characters and bring in Stewart and McKellen for the later parts of the film. If I remember right, the technology they used to make them younger in X3 and Origins was really expensive to do, so maybe this is their way around it?

I actually like this pick. IF you look at the picture in the article and imagine him with a shaved head, it works.

I love James McAvoy but I don't know, this seems so random. Well, I'll give it a chance anyway because I'm liking the idea of a McAvoy/Vaughn collaboration.

Oh well Fox is officially pissin on the franchise now! They should focus on doing X-Men 4 not fooling around with some x-kids! The fans dont wanna see that. Why is it so frickin hard to make them understand?
