UPDATE: X-MEN Star Hugh Jackman Ponders Wolverine Joining The MCU

After last night's surprise announcement that the King is going home to Marvel Studios, the only Marvel properties on the outside looking in at the MCU are the X-Men & the Fantastic Four. Come see what Wolverine star Hugh Jackman had to say about potentially following Spidey to Marvel.

Last night, Marvel and Sony finally made the announcement that almost all comic book movie fans have been waiting for: Spider-Man is going home to Marvel Studios! Even though there's still a lot to be skeptical about, considering the unknown variables behind the deal, it's probably safe to say that this is a step in the right direction for the future of the Spider-Man franchise.

Now with Spidey going back to Marvel, just in time for a possible introduction in Captain America: Civil War, followed by a solo film set for July 28, 2017, the only Marvel properties that remain outside of the MCU are the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. With Fox seeing a recent string of successes with The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past and an impressive upcoming lineup featuring a Fantastic Four reboot, Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalyspe, and Gambit, the chance we see some of Marvel's best in the MCU doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon.

However, we can always hope, can't we? It's no secret that Hugh Jackman, who has played Wolverine a record seven times, would love to team up with Spider-Man and The Avengers, a fact he has stated in numerous interviews. Come see what he had to say following last night's huge news:

"There’s so many forces at play there, man, beyond what anyone would want. The thing I’ve always loved about the comic-book world is how the fun thing was how a writer of a comic book could just pull all these characters together and what became a Friday-night discussion of “it would be cool to see Iron Man fight Wolverine” and bang, Monday morning they’re working on it, you know. But that’s an idealized world."

The interest is there, but could it really happen? At this point, the likelihood of Fox and Marvel striking a deal to use each other's characters seems to be slim to none, especially with both studios having success, but with news of Sony striking a deal with Marvel, a potential deal between Marvel and Fox isn't an impossibility. Of course, then again, Sony was in a much more dire situation with Spider-Man than Fox is currently in with their properties.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see the X-Men & Fantastic Four join the MCU? Would you like to see a Spidey/Wolverine team-up film? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Deep words from the great but evil Wolfgang Von Strucker!

I can't wait. Let pray Fox can understand the pattern here.

I'm fine with Spidey in the MCU. I want X-Men and Fantastic Four to stay at Fox. Look at the huge shakeup already with Spider-Man. It's affected release dates, story elements...who knows what else. The last thing the MCU needs is the X-Men and FF making everything even more convoluted.

if Fox and Marvel come to an agreement the internet and the world would [frick]ing break. it would be the perfect mashup considering the Fox X-Men universe can fit in perfectly with the MCU.

Fox wants to do an X-Men TV show, but Marvel Studios has to sign off on it first, because Fox only has film rights.

Sounds like a deal for the Fantastic Four rights (including Galactus and Silver Surfer) could be just what is needed to grease the skids on this one...

LOL, Fox would have to get them into something closely resembling his real costume before that picture has any possibility of seeing reality.

To address the question at the end of the post. Dire Straits should have nothing to do with it. It's just pure common sense to keep communications open in this type of relationship. Fox didn't create the X-Men they invested in them. Along with the fantastic four. To alienate the true owners is at your own peril. It would not hurt Fox in the least bit to have cooperated with Marvel's requests. Now look at the mess, and I ask you is Fox in a better place?

if Everyone went back to marble stoodios,
it could be cool,
cuz u know, theyre all interacting with eachother,
but it'd all be the 'same'
i like how MS is more.. light,
and then fox has em a lil more serious and dramatic.
which is another reason y i love WB'S approach to their characters.
its looks very tense, heavy, and, yes, 'gritty'
i like that. just stay with it. Own it.
not like sony that saw TDK trilogy and was like
"lets do that!!"
then saw the avengers n were like
"no, like that! like that!"
thats what raped spiderman.

X-men should be separated from the MCU.

We don't want the "Saturday morning cartoon" type of film-making in Fox's X-men universe.

I'm fine with x-men staying at FOX. Just make not only good movies but good cbm.

Plus it would be difficult to insert Mutants in the MCU now. MCU already changed Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 2/10/2015, 12:57 PM
Fantastic Four is a higher priority for me. The X-Men universe is relatively self-contained, but Marvel could use the FF's rogues.

As far as crossovers go... I like Hugh Jackman. He's probably the only thing about the X-Men franchise I can even tolerate at this point. I'd love to see him play a Wolverine expy... maybe even play Kraven.

But no. Wolverine does not get to play in this game. (Cue the sad pictures of Wolverine not invited to the Avengers.)
Barbaros
Barbaros - 2/10/2015, 12:59 PM
Hugh Jackman should just say to Fox, "if you want me in for Wolverine 3, than you have to make a deal with Disney, so I can at least appear in one of their movies as Wolverine"

:D

Sony still have the creative control... They are just using Marvel Studios because they know MCU have lots of easily amused fans.

Do you guys really want Marvel to shelve Black Panther, Captain Marvel and the Inhumans so we can get more X-Men movies? Really? Because that is exactly what would happen. The current slate has already been pushed back to make room for Spidey.

There is no way in the world in the world this will happen but I tho that about Spidey as well. I'm pumped but I'm still ULTRA ULTRA ULTRA trepidatious in regards to getting full blown excited.
