LOGAN Director James Mangold Says He's Talked With Fox About X-23's Next Appearance

The ending of Logan certainly left the door open for further adventures for Dafne Keen’s X-23 - but with the character firmly separated from the mainstream X-Men timeline, questions abound...

Following a special Logan Noir screening, director James Mangold held a quick fan Q&A session with the audience. One of the questions that came up was what's next for the character of X-23? She's separated by several decades from the current X-Men and Deadpool movies and might even be on a separate timeline altogether. While not going into detail, Mangold says he's already had discussions with Fox about what to do with the inheritor of Wolverine's legacy.  Speaking to the audience, Mangold stated, "Anything’s possible. I’ve certainly have talked to them about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I thought she was just such a great character, but with what Dafne did, I think that certainly, that’s possible."

ScreenRant was also in attendance at the screening and asked Mangold what he would do if Fox elected for a solo X-23 film instead of weaving her into the larger X-Men cinematic universe. Mangold kept things vague, stating he would tell, "A very honest film about young people, is what I’d say – a very honest film about young people growing up." At the very least, it sounds as if he's given some thought to it and simply doesn't want to give away any details.

ABOUT LOGAN
Logan hit North American theaters on March 3, 2017. The film is directed and written by James Mangold, who returns after directing 2013's The Wolverine. The film will reportedly mark Hugh Jackman's last outing as the titular hero after having played the character for 17 years, beginning with 2000's X-Men. Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Professor X. He'll be joined by Dafne Keen as Laura (rumored to be X-23), Stephen Merchant as Caliban, Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce (leader of The Reavers) and Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice (head of the Transigen project).

Logan is loosely based on the Old Man Logan miniseries from comic book author Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven.  The plot find Logan and Professor X on the run, years after the epilogue of X-Men: Days Of Future Past in the year 2024.  For undisclosed reasons, the world has transformed into an apocalyptic landscape where mutants are nearly extinct.  Professor X and Wolverine are protecting the young Laura who somehow holds the key to a better future.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:  In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Would be great to see her expand on her role as Wolverine takes a break in their universe. She was pretty awesome in Logan and she can become a staple in the universe into the future movies.

For those who forgot how good this movie was:

@Invictor - The score is still so beautiful

Perfect close-up on that thing that really puzzled me during the movie: why did they CGI her forehead when she goes ape-shit? What is this, Teen Wolf? It's light, but it's there, and it looks really weird and unnecessary.

Also, I doubt a great movie could be made focusing on Laura when she was this young. It wouldn't work. Not with her as the main character. They would have to focus on her teenage/young woman years, and cast someone else.

@Asturgis - I may be wrong, but when X-23 is doing the acrobtaic/extreme fighting it isnt th actress. They had an asian adult stunt woman (who was the same height) do those scenes and cgied her face.

They should wait until Dafne reaches her teenage stage and then do a film.

Those are the formative years.

When it comes to CBM movies or anything where is the impossible is happening every 5 minutes...the word "can't" does not really hold much water for me.

If you want me to (and I do) but talking raccoons, and flying men and little kids who can control the elements...
...then getting a little girl from the future back to the past should be the easiest part of the puzzle.

@IronGenesis - I think bringing her back would be a good thing. Even though I think Logan is an alternative timeline, if we assume that it is the future of "Apoclypse Timeline". Then bringing X-23 into the past could be a sufficent way of cancelling out the "Logan future", permitting the films not to be restricted by that future (no more "well we know they are killed by Porf X" etc).
Thus, we would get an X-23 with the x-men/x-force and have her interact with Wolverine (played with a new actor).

Although I think if they do it. That is the last time they should have time travel in the films.

@StormXmen123 - or they might take a page out of Doctor Who. I find it powerful when the doctor is prevented from changing the past.
It could be dramatic for X-23 to have the ability to save Logan but in doing so it would ripple in a negative way so she has to stop herself from doing a good thing in order for the greater good.
Sort of like a reverse of Mystique. She had to stop doing a bad thing to save the future. Laura has to stop doing a good thing to save the future.

@IronGenesis - Her being present will inevitably effect the "Logan future" (again assuming the is the future of the "Apocalypse timeline"). While, I like you theory. I dont see why a little girl would give up the chance to save her father (and "grand father";professor x).

It would actually be interesting if she does tell them and Xavier has to struggle with it. Should he erase everyones mind to prevent the altering the future or not.

@StormXmen123 - if she bonded with Cable he could be that fatherly figure who tries to teach her about life, consequences, death and the natural order of things...then leave it up to her to decide.

It's like DOFP but I loved that movie so why not?! Lol

They can have Cable "Slide" at the end/during DP2 and get X from her timeline. She pops the claws and DP goes batshit crazy at a mini Wolvie. Personally, I think Cable and DP need to be in New Mutants too. Cable was a "teacher" for them and DP, in his first appearance, was the antagonist.
