Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman to Host 2009 Oscars

Hugh "Wolverine" Jackman to Host 2009 Oscars

In a move that will certainly get comic book movie fans watching, the Academy Awards program has announced that X-Fan favorite Hugh Jackman, who made his career by playing the mutant berserker "Wolverine" has been named as the host of the 2009 Oscars!

By ComicBookMovie - Dec 12, 2008 02:12 PM EST

Hugh has never hosted the event before (although he did host the Tonys) and the choice is a departure for "Oscar" who usually has a comedian hosting the event.

Last year's event was hosted by Jon Stewart, fake news comedian of The Daily Show.

Early reports had linked British comedian Ricky Gervais to the post, filled in previous years by Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and the late Bob Hope.

Gervais, though, subsequently distanced himself from the role, saying he feared he might not get the "freedom" he would need.

Jackman will be seen as Wolverine in a fourth X-Men film next year
Australian actor Hugh Jackman will be the host of the 2009 Academy Awards, organisers have announced.

Really??? Wow, don't get me wrong I love the Jack-man, but hosting the Oscars? I just hope they don't put claws on him for a cheap giggle from a bunch of drunk actors.

The infatuation with Hugh Jackman goes beyond my reasoning. I just can't picture him as a host on a VH1 awards ceremony, or the Oscars for that matter.

lol grif, you just reminded me that I never watch the Oscars, there are so many other thing I can do and they will inform me on every newspaper, magazine and tv show. Guess I won't rant anymore on this issue.

I was surprised to hear this, but i'm kind of excited. It might be a little different than usual but I think Jackman will do a decent job. He at least had the experience. He hosted the Tony's at least twice and was pretty good.

He did a great job in Tonys. He's gonna be better than Billy Crystal. Enough of Crystal...

The Oscars is my Super Bowl.
The host doesn't do much besides open the ceremony so its actually not that big of a deal.
