The X Men star already regards himself as an American and is now set to make it official.

Speaking to reporters at the Democratic National Convention, Cumming will be finalizing his change of nationality in November although he will be too late to vote in the presidential election.

He said: "I've got the questions and the answers. Now all I've got to do is memorize them.

"It's just like learning a lot of lines, so I kind of think that as an actor, I'll be better prepared than most."

The requirements state that to become an American citizen, applicants are required to have lived in the country for five years, and "be a "person of good moral character," which you would think would have presented a stumbling block to Cumming, a flamboyantly gay man--although he claims to be "bi-sexual."

Sexuality aside, Cumming's "elvish" appearance made him the perfect choice for the mutant Nightcrawler, and he received much love from fans for his portrayal in the X-Men movies.
