X-MEN '97 Could Feature The Return Of X-MEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES And IRON MAN's Scarlet Witch

The Scarlet Witch only played a minor role in X-Men: The Animated Series before making the leap to Iron Man, but Head Writer Beau DeMayo has now indicated Wanda Maximoff will return in Disney+'s X-Men '97.

The Scarlet Witch only appeared in two episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series, with her story actually playing out in greater detail in Iron Man. In that show, Wanda Maximoff followed her comic book counterpart by joining The Avengers (well, Force Works), but could we see the hero - and occasional villain - in Marvel Studios and Disney+'s upcoming X-Men '97 revival?

Executive producer and Head Writer Beau DeMayo recently responded to a fan who said they wouldn't be interested in watching the show if the Scarlet Witch isn't Magneto's daughter and a mutant.

In his now-deleted reply, DeMayo said (via Toonado.com): "Wanda [was] established as [a mutant] in 'Family Ties' of X-Men: TAS so don't worry there..."

We're not sure why he deleted this reply, but he did follow it by noting "All I said is they're canon in the OG series" when a fan took his comments as confirmation Scarlet Witch will appear. That winking face makes us think there's a good chance Wanda is going to appear, especially as the character is more popular than ever thanks to Elizabeth Olsen and the MCU.

She and Quicksilver appeared in the "Repo Man" and "Family Ties" episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series, learning that they were Magneto's children. Neither of them wanted anything to do with their father, but now he's leading the X-Men, we have a feeling a reunion could be in the cards.

It's definitely exciting to see this series take shape, and with it looking like season 2 is already in the works, we're sure there will be room for the Scarlet Witch to make some sort of appearance.

X-Men '97 is still expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023. Be sure to keep checking Toonado.com for updates.

Since this is Marvel Studios can we consider this part of the Multiverse Saga?

@ObserverIO - I’m not entirely sure as it is not canon to the MCU.

@tb86 - I wonder if it could be canon to the multiverse, though. Maybe we could see some MCU connection, like a Jonathan Majors Kang variant or a Jeffrey Wright Watcher?

Wait, so the X-men original series and the animated iron man series were connected?? dam i really didn't know.

Does that mean Spider-Man and Hulk were also connected to them all?

@UnderBelly - i believe they were all connected in the 90’s. Silver Surfer show was awesome and severely underrated.

@UnderBelly -
Spider-Man TAS had crossover episodes with a lot of them.

@UnderBelly - Yeah, 90s Marvel had an animated universe. X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer and The Incredible Hulk were all set in the same continuity.

@comicfan100 - my mind is blown i never noticed this. We had a MATU before we had the MCU..amazing...

Personal favourite was probably X-men Evolution though i think that was it's own thing.

I hope to see an episode where Cyclops trains the cadets. The future generation of X-men.

It can be fun to watch Cyclops training unruly teenagers.

@Repian - Yup great idea. One of the few flaws of the original show was that Jubilee was the only young recruit. They should have brought others in.

And with Cable being a big part of it, it would have been cool to have the New Mutants at the school for a bit then leave to form X-Force.

Are the X-Men and Iron Man animated series even set in the same universe? I kinda always assumed they were separate. Wanda is portrayed very differently in both cartoons and she had an accent in the Iron Man series. Also according to Marvel.Fandom.com X-Men: TAS is set on Earth-92131 which also includes the Spider-Man: TAS and Iron Man is set on Earth-534834 which also includes The Fantastic Four and Incredible Hulk cartoon shows.

@tb86 - They were different. Hulk and Iron Man were in the same universe. Not sure if Fantastic Four was set in the same universe as them though.

@tb86 - They were all intended to be connected, but due to some inconsistencies, they were marked as separate universes in the Marvel Handbook.

Of course there is so much time travel going on in X-Men, that there would be various timelines created anyway. This could also explain a lot of the inconsistencies within the show itself. Before all the time travel, Beast had never met Magneto until one of the early episodes and the X-Men didn't seem to know Angel, but then after the time travel, the classic era of the original 5 fighting Magneto was intact.

@IronMan616 - Fantastic Four did do a crossover in one of the Hulk’s episodes with the same voice actors and theme music and also Doctor Doom appeared in two separate episodes voiced by the same actor from the FF series.

@JoshWilding, "The Avengers (well, Armor Works)"

Force Works dude.

Also, got me thinking, the MODOK on that abysmal first season (season 2 was great) was better than MCU MODOK.

The original was always great at cameos and expanding the universe. I am looking forward to see returning faces and new characters. This is the thing I am most hyped for from Marvel fight now. The original was my childhood. I sure hope they don’t drop the ball.
