X-Men '97's first two episodes blasted their way onto Disney+ earlier this week and Marvel Studios/Marvel Animation has since shared a gallery of official stills from "To Me, My X-Men" and "Mutant Liberation Begins" (via Toonado.com).

Even more exciting is the fact we have the X-Men: The Animated Series revival's awesome - and undeniably iconic - theme song. We're sure many of you will be listening to this on repeat and, as an added bonus, it includes that fun end credits sequence highlighting the show's leads.

During a recent interview, Marvel Animation and streaming executive Brad Winderbaum was asked if they ever considered completely modernising these characters for their long-awaited small-screen return.

"Our #1 rule was to emulate our memory of the original," he explains. "That was more important than emulating frame by frame what is was. Because if you watch the original show, the animation shifts. Working with [X-Men: The Animated Series director Larry Houghton] and [Eric Lewald, who developed the show, and Julia Lewald] who worked on the original show, this was part of their guidance - to show us where those limitations were, to see those guardrails, and try to get to the same place."

"We always wanted to evoke that feeling, which means we had to try to match the style, or people's memories of the style. Through the design process, it was challenging to not modernize. [We kept] arcing it back to the original, kind of old-fashioned design; big, bubbly muscles, soft curves."

"With our modern sensibilities - we've all watched so much anime and are fans of modern animation - it's very easy to go angular," Winderbaum concludes. "But we were constantly trying to go back to that soft '90s kind of vibe."

Listen to X-Men '97's iconic theme, and check out those newly released stills from the two-part premiere, below.

In our review of the show's first three episodes yesterday, we concluded by saying, "A triumphant return for X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men '97 is an eXtraordinary epic which, while a little overreliant on nostalgia, should satisfy fans of the original show and serve as an eXcellent entry poin

X-Men '97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.

The first two episodes of X-Men '97 are now streaming on Disney+ with new instalments following weekly.

@dragon316 - That’s the whole dang point; he doesn’t want to look threatening. There’s an entire scene about him and the helmet.

Granted, I could without the shoulder windows. And of course the helmet look is the best.

@dragon316 - Only reason he used the helmet in the first place was to block Xavier.

@kg8817 - its funny how morons believe that comics are sacred and perfect. A lot of comics are just awful. Being "true to the source material" has never been guaranty to making a good product

Holy crap is the new theme bad! All the dynamics, the guitars, the percussions, every cool aspect of the song is gone! It's like an 8 bit version. Sad.

Tried to watch this last night. Cheesy AF! I found over acted crap like this a bit cringe when I was a kid so now it's just embarrassing. Anyone over 14 watching this and enjoying it are either lost in the 90's or easily pleased.

@ZomZom - Anyone trying to gatekeep what others do with their own time is a loser who has no control in their own lives so they feel the need to control what others do. See, we can do it too!

I'm planning on watching it with my 7 year old. She loves Storm and is excited to watch it. I loved the OG series but I was a little older than her when it was on.

The Storm depowered arc could be our great solo character episode this season. The old show always did a great job with those. Beast finding love, Scott going back to his old orphanage, Rogue’s exploration of her abusive father and past, so many great ones.

I’m interested to see if they start teasing a more militant Scott that really didn’t come into the comics until well later after M Day. Some of the dialog between him and Magneto seemed to indicate that he’s more willing to be more extreme to defend mutants.

I get that they are setting up Jubilee and Roberto as an item, but I’d love it if they set up the New Mutants as well. Multiple team members appeared in the old show already - Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Rusty, Skids, Boom Boom. This would be my first spin off request.

Will Val Cooper get involved with X-Factor. They’ve appeared as well and could be an interesting add.

I hope it doesn’t take too long to find out why Bishop is in 1997 as a permanent team member. He did always come back because the death of Xavier caused a terrible future so maybe it’s tied to that (even though we all know he isn’t dead).

Need more in battle morphing into other characters from Morph. So cool so far! Coolest cameo was Psyloke but most clutch morphing was into Archangel.

I feel like there is a lot of nitpicking, but to each their own. I actually loved every second of these first two episodes.

Worst Magneto costume ever. What’s with the hooker gloves? lol.

My edge-lord inner-child is pleasantly impressed by what I’ve seen so far. The action is great. I dig the animation for the most part.

Obligatory complaints are: Wolverine with extended claws that are noticeably longer than his forearm will never not bother me.

An X-Men team without Nightcrawler is like a snickers bar without chocolate. 🥺
