Donner Hoping for X-Men: First Class Franchise!

"X-Men" franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked about possible spin-off X-Men: First Class on Fox Movie Channel's "Life after Film School."

"It is the first class of Xavier's school, way back when, so it's young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that'll be really fun," Donner said. "I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world.

"And hopefully 'First Class' will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up."

She also said that a Magneto movie remains in development.

I personally hope that this film wont be X-Men meets the OC but instead is a reboot of a franchise that was ruined by "The Last Stand"...(and hopfully they will have costumes this time instead of identical leather outfits)!

So having young actors makes it OC like? That's stupid. If the script is juvenile and just stupid, then well you have a case there....

Its not gonna be like the OC you dumb[frick]s. Writers dont alwasy write the same thing over and over again. Dont you idiots know what happens when they stick more than 80% to the source material? Watchmen and Punisher War Zone did that and they failed as movies.

I really hope this doesn't turn out like the OC or Gossip B****, this has the potential to reclaim what was lost in the original X films. I'm just wondering who they are going to fill the two open spots with considering Bobby and Warren can't be used because they were portrayed as too young in the original X movies, and no Wolvie=bonus, because he over shadowed everyone in the first 3, maybe put Gambit in there since he is in the wolverine movie they could at least have him in it maybe working for Mr. Sinister, i would even like a young Gambit.

k let's get the naysay ball rolling early on this one.

At this point I am convinced that whoever is making decisions about this stuff at Fox are pathalogically incappable of making good X Men movies.

They have two gutter balls in a row now and this Schuler Donner idiot was deeply involved in BOTH. And I hear that she had a hand in ruining that attrocious Punisher flick a while back too. Nice.

I don't believe for one minute that Fox can pull this off.

Its deffo not rebooting anything..notice no mention of Angel or Ice man? They will prob put a couple of X Men that we havnt seen in the movies yet into the last 2 spots..like Longshot or Bishop. Sounds ridiculous right? Put nothing past these people...

Osiris,
Right on Bobby & Warren.

I say to either reboot it or don't do it cause who are they even left with now at this point? Due to the storyline created in the original 3 films they couldn't use Angel, Iceman, Colosus, Nightcrawler or Kitty Pride (among others) and let's face it-- we ALL wanna see those characters. FINALLY we could see the story of Colosus.

I am aware that Colosus & Nightcrawler weren't in the original class but since they can't do the story right anyway due to the other movies they'll end up doing some stupid BS that isn't "true" either, like putting Gambit in there too.

The thing that sucks here is that this could really be an AWESOME movie... but they'll probably end up F'ing it up too. I would love to see Angel in a leading/main role. One of my personal favorites.

(Also, Cyclops could "die" in this one, too, since they just decided to make him disappear in "X3" and we didn't even see it happen so we can't even be sure that he is in fact dead. So lame.)

I hope I'm not jinxing things, but I got a little overexcited when I read Donner's statement. It sounds like they want to make an honest-to-God, following continuity, origin story of the X-Men! (The way it should have been done originally!!)
My only concern is the one mirrored by Ror... How the hell can they screw this up for us too.

TheProgram,
Before you go calling other people stupid you should think twice. Isn't this movie supposed to be called "First Class"? No one is debating that there are tons of other mutants that could be used, but those mutants you named were not in the original group (or "First Class").

Go look up who the original X-Men were and don't reply until you know for sure.

All they got to do basically is read the early X-MEN, and FIRST CLASS!!! An make a darn good movie (minus Wolverine). Just have Original costumes (somehow i don't think they will go with leather if they want this new 'n' fresh), an have BEAST, ANGEL and ICEMAN with CYCLOPS an JEAN plus PROF!!! Can ignore the franchise (Did that with BATMAN), can use MAGNETO but none of the other Villains in the last lot of movies! New X-Villains!!! = COOL MOVIE!!! ; )

What are you little girls whining about? X-Men 1&2 were really good movies. Just cuz they kinda messed up on the 3rd one doesnt mean anything. If they [frick]ed up the 3rd Batman film would that take away from TDK and how good it was? Just cuz it doesnt follow the comics word to word doesnt mean they arent good you pieces of gay shit.

@ lee777..Nah, this is a lot different than Batman. First off, its far too soon for a full reboot, 2nd the previous X movies are nowhere near as reviled as the Schumaker Batmans. Nobody cared about that reboot because so much time had passed , and they never had any fans in the first place! I loved X2, like X1 and even thought X3 was ok. I wouldnt like to see a full reboot just so they can show the early teeny bopper adventures of DoucheClops and his friends.

I'm not saying that I didn't like the original movies. They pissed me off a ton because of how inaccurate to the comics they were, but they weren't bad movies. The problem is that you can't accurately have a story/movie about the 1st class while also keeping with the same storyline used in the first 3 films. So that's why I say to either reboot it or don't do it. They COULD do a prequel and just not call it "First Class." That would free them up to (as usual) be inaccurate to the comics but not totally F up the story.

And as far as it being too soon to reboot it, both "The Punisher" AND "The Hulk" have already been rebooted so saying that it is too soon isn't exactly true.

I should specify that I'm not all about rebooting every movie, I'm just saying that this can't be done correctly without a reboot. HERE'S AN IDEA: HOW ABOUT DOING THE F'ING STORIES RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

dellamorte1872, I get what your saying..but whatever the studios or the director say, Incredible Hulk was more of a sequel than a reboot. They didnt change any of the events of Ang Lees Hulk, they just rushed together an intro which somewhat contradicts a small part of it..hell they even began the movie in South America where the last one ended! A new cast, director and look for Hulky..but not a reboot
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 4/15/2009, 11:16 AM
Same with Punisher Warzone..nothing in that contradicts anything that happened in the Tom Jane one(which was 10 times better anyway imo). Its set after all of the early events that shape Castle into the Punisher.

I know how we all love to hate on the movie studios and anyone associated with screwing up our favourite villains, but rebooting every franchise is not the answer to the problem. All that's going to accomplish in the end is allowing writers and director's to submit crap, that will get made because we allow second, third, and fourth chances get it right. Not to mention the amount of work and dollars associated with such a task. I know we don't like to talk about money but unfortunately it is at the centre of everything.

When it comes to accuracy in the story telling, some of these characters have been around for more than half a century and even in the last 20 years there's a ton of conflicting storylines and details with characters and their origins. Choices have to made, as to what should be adhered to and what should be dropped.

X1 and 2 I thought were great X3 not horrible, but a very bad choice to wrap up a trilogy. Nowhere near strong enough an ending. It could work as a stepping stone should they choose to continue on.

My God, the costumes for these characters have evolved over the past 40 years, so why aren't the movies allowed to take some artistic licence with them as well. I can't believe some of the posts here that actually state that the entire movie is ruined because every single button or clasp is not exactly where it's supposed to be.

Rorshach,
That isn't completely correct about "Punisher: Warzone." They show a flashback which didn't actually happen in the Thomas Jane movie to the scene where Frank Castle is in the park with his dead family, which is how it "really" happened in the comics.

Rorsch @ Im getting ya man, though if they stayed true to the original X-MEN, i don't think ppl would mind! Also its not really a reboot unless they mess with characters already in X1 to X3!! Yes i know, ANGEL an ICEMAN, but that can be over looked! New X-VILLAINS would make this FIRST CLASS movie more like a companion to the X Movies than a reboot!!! I think ive said before lol how much i love reboots .... not!
MetalHead
MetalHead - 4/15/2009, 12:08 PM
Killawee,
I'm not disagreeing with you that it's all about the money. Here's the problem with your argument: IF it is all about the money, which we agree that it is, then don't you think that making the best movie possible would lead to the studios making even more money?

Obviously the original trilogy was a success and spawned sequels and upcoming spinoffs. But the fact of the matter is that the better the movies are, the more money they would make. And we're not talking an extra $25. We're potentially talking millions. The proof I have is "Star Wars." Do I expect these movies to be as successful? Of course not, but the point is that if the Star Wars stories were not done as well as they were then they lose a good chunk of their fans, which is a good chunk of money in box office revenues, DVD sales, action figure sales, marketing deals, etc.

Take that the opposite direction with the X-Men series. Good? Yes. Could it have been WAY better? Yes. Would that have made WAY MORE money? Yes. Yes, the series was a success financially. But that doesn't mean that there wasn't the room for improvement to make the films WAY better and therefore bring in WAY more money.

Now, in MY opinion, sticking closer to the comics would have made for better movies and made it easier to make the spin-offs and prequels due to fact that they would already have had a blueprint to follow. Now they're gonna be bouncing all over the place, creating storylines that don't follow the comics and are inaccurate to how they were done so the point is that it makes all sorts of inconsistencies that all would have been avoided by just doing things more closely to the comics all along.

@dellamorte1872, your an idiot, if you dont know the facts then dont open your dumbass mouth. It wasnt a reboot, Marvel said it themselves. Like RORSACH01 said, they even started the movie in Brazil, exactly where the first one ended, if thats not enough proof then you need to wipe that cum off your eyes.

dellamorte1872- it's a sequel.

And first class will stick with the movie contiuity of Wolverine, magneto and all three x-men films. Here's your "first class team members":

Cyclops
Jean
Storm
Beast
White Queen (which will either turn evil after a few movies or leave for some other reason)
Morph (which will die)

Check for it!

@ metalhead..Oh yeah, i forgot about that scene! Okay well apart from a blink and youl miss it flashback it wasnt a reboot of Punishers origins. And Star Wars..done well?? I assume your not talking about those abysmal prequels here? I do agree that the X Men movies may have been better sticking closer to the comics..but then again they may not have! Theres no way of knowing. Plenty of people love those movies that have never picked up a comic so it would make no difference to them either way. They didnt really deviate that much anyway, they got the essence of the stories and the characters (most of them) and thats all that really matters. Id rather a great movie that deviated from the comics a bit than a faithful load of shit like Warzone any day!

Delamorte1872, so begining the movie right were the last one left off was a coincidence was it? Cmon man, like you said they changed a few things to tie in with the upcoming Marvel movies but a reboot would have began with a normal Bruce Banner becoming Hulk..they chose to have they're cake and eat it and make a slightly altered events sequel.

I'll wait for news after WOLVERINE comes out to see whats what! ; ) An how was WARZONE faithful???? They had the birth of JIGSAW and the DEATH of JIGSAW in a couple of days, MICROS first on screen appearance an gets blown away by JIGSAW more or less straight away!! The film had great PUNISHER ACTION in it, but the story was like a WHAT IF one off comic book lame story! MICROS with FRANK for years, an JIGSAWS about for years too! I liked PUNISHER (Toms) so much better!!! WARZONE should've been so much more!!!
