Fox Searching For A Super Villain's Lair For X-Men: First Class!

According to local UK newspaper, Your Local Guardian, Fox have been searching Sutton (near London) to use in the upcoming Matthew Vaughn directed movie which has already filmed heavily in Britain. Here's an excerpt from their report:

Location managers for Twentieth Century Fox made enquiries to Sutton Council earlier this year about shooting scenes from the two films in the borough, it emerged this week.

X-Men: First Class looked at using the urban sprawl of the Durand Close Estate, and also wanted a large warehouse to build a super-villain's lair.

The question ois of course, which super villain's lair are they searching for!? We already know that Sebastian Shaw and Azazel will be in the movie, but will this be one of their bases (such as the Hellfire Club) or another character who has not yet been revealed? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

X-Men: First Class will be released on June 3, 2011!

Probably for the Hellfire Club. I'm still waiting to hear what role Oliver Platt has exactly. I'm pretty sure he'll be Amahl Farouk, The Shadow King.

Good find Josh. I have to say, while I am not overjoyed about any of the information I have learned about this movie, I am extremely curious. I will go see this film, if for no ther reason than to see what the Hell they are doing with it.

Hmm, I'm assuming the Durand Estate would be used for the Hellfire Club, so then who would the large warehouse lair be for?

Interesting. Hope we get at least some pictures or a teaser soon. This entire production has been so secretive compared to a lot of the other superhero productions going on. I guess Vaughn and Singer aren't letting anything leak out. Good for them.

The can't even get the X-MEN right, what chance have they with the HELLFIRE CLUB and they should be around when THE NEW MUTANTS are around not FIRST CLASS...

Damn it gets worst lol.

Seriously, they should save HELLFIRE CLUB for NEW MUTANTS, hell... should have made NEW MUTANTS anyway not this...

Thanks guys. :) As intriguing as this info may be, I cannot even force myself to be at all excited for this movie. I'm looking forward to finding out more information, but what little we've already heard is enough for me to decide that I wont be able to enjoy it. There's just too many Fox like errors and continuity/character changes for my liking.

The lair is probably for villains that are already stated to be in the film, adaption doesn't mean a direct translation and why would they make a new mutants movie?
TheMyth
TheMyth - 12/7/2010, 9:29 AM
LEEE, actually bro the New Mutants didn't come along for quite some time after Hellfire was introduced. Also, Hellfire had been around even before that and Xavier was aware of them before ever founding the X-Men. When Lucifer paralyzed Xavier, only 1 mutant heard his distress calls and came to his rescue. The mutants name was Tess aka Sage and she was the first mutant Xavier convinced to join his cause, though he recognized her power as having only the capacity to betray so he employed her as a spy and made Hellfire Club her objsective. Then he formed his First Class. Xavier and Shaw know each other from even earlier than this... Project Black Womb.

But I think the contunity fits within what Singer has setup himself. If they are ignoring Origins and X3 like the rumored script is (thank gosh, ignoring Origins even moreso), I think the movie is going to be great fitting in with X1 and X2 movieverse.

I'm also wondering if what we heard a while back about Matthew Vaughn and Singer taking a Star Trek approach and altering the timeline still has any validity with the current script. If they found a way to rewrite or just completley obliterate X3, that would be quite amazing.

MYTH @ Oh yeah, I 4got theres been generations of the HELLFIRE CLUB lol, FOX blinds me haha, thanks for the info bud.

I still can't see this being much as its way too twisted and messed up but hopefully WOLVERINE and DEADPOOL will be truer versions of what we love!

Cheers man!

I wouldn't be too terribly nervous about the post production. X1, X2, & X3 all had similar post-production time and the effects in those movies were top notch, I'd say.

I doubt First Class is going to be as heavy on the cgi/special effects as the previous films.

With principal photography ending within the month (and a few main/supporting actors already wrapped and gone home) I'd say this is all for establishing shots. (Y'know, the exterior shots of buildings and such that feature nothing important, but are just give you the sense of where the characters are once the film cuts to them.)

Not that anyone would listen to my opinion.

@MaxJaybo
good point! i hadn't thought of it that way, and hope you're right.

@supert
see that's just it, Fox does always produce X movies so freaking later than other superhero films, that absolutely, the job does get done. but eh, i thought X1 especially had 'meh' special effects. not due to lack of talent involved, but lack of time and money is my guess. So while i'm sure the effects team will bust ass to bring their A game, i feel like Fox puts them behind the 8 ball to start, you know?

I dunno, I'm very skeptical about this but due to some talent involved in front of and behind the camera, am hopeful. It's gotten so ravaged online I almost want to stick up for it just to support the underdog. haha. but look forward to official publicity imagery released, hopefully soon.

@write33

I agree, this movie is definitely getting ravaged for no apparent reason. I personally thought Bryan Singer did an great job with X1 then hit it out of the park with X2, but all that was undone when they gave X3 to Ratner instead of just waiting for Singer.

With Singer back behind production and Vaughn directing First Class and now with Aronofsky directing the next Wolvie, I can say that I have extremely high hopes for the next two X-Men installments.

C'mon people what do you mean "you don't know why this movie gets hated on online"!!! Maybe it has to do with it being called first class and the fact that it doesn't have the first class!!!!

@fullmetal
yep, it's not the "real" first class of Cyke, Angel, and the rest. You've hit the nail on the head for what it isn't.

but what is it? It's a film directed by Matthew Vaughn. produced by Bryan Singer. and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Rose Byrne.......and THAT is some serious talent in front and behind the camera. so I'm willing to let some of my geek indignation die down a bit and go on faith per the talent involved.

am I nervous? absolutely. they have made some lunatic decisions regarding continuity. but I trust the talent more than I trust Fox. Hell, between this and as 'supert' points out, Aronofsky taking over Wolverine, maybe Fox really is committed to raising the bar on quality....? time will tell.

supert - 12/7/2010, 3:20 PM
Don't forget Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Oliver Platt, up and comer Nicholas Hoult (was fantastic in A Single Man btw) and potential Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence, this one has some serious talent on it.

Is it the First Class from the comics? No because the comicverse and the movieverse are two separate and completely different continuities that's why they call it an adaptation.

yeah on the bright side it has some good talent. i just feel that okay if were going to do it like this, they better dive in deeply into the discrimination, child abuse, and persecution of the mutants and other racism THAT WAS GREATLY OVERLOOKED IN THE OTHER FILMS. X1 and 2 were good but i still feel that people that don't know much about x men still don't understand what it's all about RACISM, CHILD HOOD TRAUMA, PERSECUTION, the movies went soft on this, there was no sociological perspectives in them at all. if this film's heart is based on this, i'll forgive the whole mess because it will give the existing films that added dimension/theme that is central to the heart of x men

I agree, and I think since this movie is set in the 60's we'll get A LOT more of that dynamic.

Here's an idea that fits with X-Men First Class cause I understand a movie of this caliber needs to have a great bad-guy lair. So here it is.

Have the super villain's lair be...wait for it...

Under the High School. That's right. This way the X-Men can just walk down a flight of stairs to find him.
