X-Men: First Class Takes $21 Million Opening Day

X-Men: First Class Takes $21 Million Opening Day

On track with industry projections, X-Men: First Class achieves an expected, but not exceptional, first day total

Despite all the great buzz surrounding "X-Men: First Class", Vaughn's prequel can't escape the shadows of its predecessors. Resting at an extraordinary 91% on RottenTomatoes.com, this latest outing seemed like it would outpace Fox's humble weekend projection of $55 million. Certainly the poor quality of the last two installments have left the public a little wary of the superhero franchise.

Although, this film has already received great word of mouth, so it is sure to have a lasting impact at the box office...at least until the release of Warner Brothers sci-fi odyssey "Green Lantern".

does it really matter how much it gross in the opening day. it might gross more over the time at cinema.

but i do agree people are wary of the X-Men franchise cause of the major disappointment of X-Men 3 and Wolverine.

Green Lantern would definitely beat X men First Class. First Class is not following material too much.

@shahrazstate: You do realize that the majority of moviegoers, at best, only have a general knowledge of the source material when it comes to CBMs, right? It won't really matter if GL follows the source material or not. Especially not when you consider that the x-men are known by a much wider audience (how many times have you heard "No never read the comics but I used to love the cartoon") than GL.

green lantern will make more money than x-men first class.

look at the box office takings for the previous x-men films.

x-men $296,339,527

x-men 2 $407,711,549

x-men 3 $459,359,864

x-men origins wolverine $373,062,864

i reckon $400,000,000 max.

Misner89- Agreed. The only X-Men movie that comes close to this one is X-2. Everything was done right, it was a great film. 9/10 for me. I hope it does very well at the Box Office. I actually WANT a sequel. As long as Fassbender and Mcavoy are the main roles in it again.

just watched it round a mates house,i was never gonna fully except this movie.

i wanted to see the proper first class not a bunch of random mutants.

here are a list of pros & cons with the movie.

pros

-magneto (amazing)
-professor x (very good)
-beast (good, but some shit cgi in places)
-brutal in places
-set during the 60s
-cerebro
-good to see two groups fight
-magneto costume from the back
-some very good action scenes

cons

-movie contunity
-no respect to the source, should of been the original team
-magneto costume from the front
-still doesn't feel like an x-men film
-january jones as emma frost nice to look at but that is it,is she made of diamond or wood her acting wasn't all that.
-apart charles & eric, all of the other performances were just okay some pointless especially darwin.

overall 3/5 a film filled with moments, but still not what i'm looking for out of an x-men film.

i still don't know why its getting 5/5,i haven't seen one cbm that deserves 5/5.

best x-men film to date maybe, best comic book movie of the year never.

@royaltenebaum I agree with you to some extent I was thinking ( rarely do I do that )the other day that outside of blade 1 there really isn't a flawless CBM. Blade was lucky because no one expected anything. Most of the superhero movies don't match the hype. I think that I can speak for most of us on this site that we really want something on the level of Lord of the Rings which met every expectation and then some....
