Steve Niles Intends to Have Melissa George Return in '30 Days of Night: Dark Days

The creator of 30 Days of Night wants to have Mellisa George return for her role as the leading lady in the sequel.

During the weekend, Steve Niles attended the Baltimore Comic-Con where he explained the sequel has one major priority in mind...bringing back Melissa George as the female lead. George played Stella Oleson in the original film, where her husband played by Josh Hartnett whose death was caused by the vampires. In the sequel she will be traveling to Los Angeles to seek revenge on each vampire responsible for bringing her husband's life to an end as well as destroying her town. Rumors have recently surfaced making it appear she will no longer appear in the sequel but that's definitely not in the wishes of Niles.

"What we want to do is try to get Melissa back," the comics creater said. "Basically, she's the only survivor of the first movie, really, so there weren't that many people to bring back because they got killed. So we're going to try that, and all the other casting is new characters. We're actively doing that right now."

With the beginning of production drawing near in Vancouver next month, the team being the sequel must work fast in gathering the necessary casting.

[frick] yeah! Vamps as vicious monsters just like daddy used to stake! Seriously, until 30 days vamps hadn't been actually frightening since Salems Lot for me. They have been either misunderstood, tortured soul pansies, leather clad warriors that happen to drink blood or fangless, day walking, glittering non vamps like in Twi-Shite. Harnett was actually good in it, it was tense, BEn Foster and Danny Huston rules as always, lots of gore, nice emotional ending..whats not to like? My only problem was that the 30 days jumped along too quick without explanation as to how they had survived..but nothings perfect.

@ Spock

Trust me on this...you surely didn't miss out on that one. The film truly epitomizes everything i hate about "vampire" flicks. It's as if they slapped fangs on "When Harry Met Sally" and called it a vampire franchise. It received the 90210 treatment faster than you could count from 1-10. Everything doesn't need blood and gore to be successful but the moment you water down a project for the sake of one select audience (in my opinion this was solely for women), you ostracize everyone else.

up here in Alaska, it was almost more of a comedy than Zombieland. Every five minutes they got something so horrendously wrong about Barrow or Alaska, the entire audience busted up laughing.

I loved 30 Days of Night but then again I've never been to
Barrow!

The vamps were awesome and frightening and George and
Hartnett we're excellent! I especially love the guy with
the snow machine taking out a ton of vamps in one last
wonderfully violent Kamakaze run!

this was an excellent film. i like what the guy said about salems lot because i would use the same analogy. it was well paced and fierce. great setting in a remote icy town that was probably only using the name of barrow in namesake only. remember people its sci fi horror originating from a graphic novel alot like 300. its ecapism.
