Matt Damon & Paul Greengrass Expected To Re-Team For New JASON BOURNE Movie

We've been hearing rumors for a while, but now it's being reported that the director of the two best Bourne flicks is indeed set to return for another movie with Matt Damon reprising the iconic title role.

Well, we didn't think this was likely since Jeremy Renner seemed to have taken over the franchise with The Bourne Legacy, but according to the ever-reliable Deadline, we will be seeing Matt Damon return to play Jason Bourne under director Paul Greengrass. The site reckon that Universal Pictures still plan to produce another spin-off with Renner and Justin Lin, but that this would take precedent, and look to make a July 16, 2016 release slot -- bumping the Legacy sequel back! To be fair, this re-teaming was reported previously by a number of sites (most recently Latino Review) but dismissed by both Universal and Greengrass, who actually laughed it off. Just goes to show you can never believe director/studio denials! Does this mean we could eventually see Bourne and ..uhh, whatshisname go head to head someday? It has to be a distinct possibility. Thoughts?

I wonder if Renner supposed to return too, or is this the start of a new story/trilogy

good. because i don't like Jeremy Renner in...anything. Especially as the lead.

@DrKinsolving He's not, but it will likely acknowledge the events of THE BOURNE LEGACY, depending where this Bourne film is set.

Renner got shafted. He's a great actor, but man, don't star in a movie with "Bourne" in the title if Jason Bourne isn't in it.

Seeing Damon as Bourne will be a nice treat. I was hoping Damon would be in a cbm. I could see him playing a character from the DCU.

Thanks, and honestly, I think I've had enough of Bourne.... Damon was good in Elysium though, so I'm sure this could still be entertaining

@DrKinsolving Yeah, same here. I'm cautiously optimistic; I'm not sure if they'll be able to recapture the magic of the trilogy.

"director of the two best Bourne flicks"

Really? I guess I gotta try the others again but the first one was BY FAR the best from what I remember.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 9/15/2014, 5:25 PM
Well, that's just my opinion ..but those movies are generally seen as getting better as they went along..Legacy not included of course!

@ruadh Supremacy and Ultimatum are regarded as the two best Bourne flicks since those were the flicks that gave it the real-time, shaky-cam documentarian feel but I love all 3 films equally.

Well of course I get that this is opinion, but I guess I hadn't heard it expressed by anyone before. I just didn't get into the others like I did the original. I also tend to dislike when a major character, especially a love interest, is done away with in a sequel. But that you guys like the others so much is making me consider giving them another chance.

I've never bothered with the Renner one, though I did just find out Oscar Isaac is in it. He is kinda the new Ewan McGregor for me. Someone I got into based on one movie, and then I find out they're gonna be in the new star wars.

Yeah....I still haven't seen Legacy. To me, the trilogy ended with Ultimatum. Still, it's one of the few trilogies that actually got better and better with each film. Not sure I'm interested in Damon coming back at this point. It ended perfectly already.
