It was revealed last month that star of AMC's The Killing, Joel Kinnaman, was in talks to play RoboCop in MGM's planned reboot of the franchise. Deadline now reports that the deal has been closed and he will play the character (originally brought to the big screen by actor Peter Weller in the 1987 film) in Jose Padhila's reboot of the franchise. They add that Strike Entertainment partners Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing with a script from Josh Zetumer. Kinnaman most recently appeared alongside Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington in Safe House. How do you feel about the decision to cast the actor? Sound off with your thoughts below.

Have never seen him before, and he's fairly unknown, eh? That's good, I'd love to be surprised by his performance; and he can fit the role, I guess. Always love such kind of casting.

They have to make this reboot right, though.

This guy is a fantastic actor. If you haven't seen The Killing, I strongly recommend that you see it. I'm sure he'll make a fine robocop.

I'm fine with him playing robocop. I just hope the movie is as good as the original movie.

@ironman53- its weird because they are trying to modernize a character that was ahead of its time.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF THIS GUY?
BLUEEYEDBEAST
BLUEEYEDBEAST - 3/3/2012, 9:09 AM
Does it really matters what actor you put in the role? His face will be covered and all his lines will be delivered in that flat robot voice. Don't get me wrong, I love Robocop. But really, anyone can play him.

@Benjamitesandwich: i second your comment bro, got a DVD of The Killing too and he was great in it. Am looking forward on this one.

Some comic book related information.

He is evidently best friend with "Alexander Skarsgard". The guy that was among the 3 last as the choice to play Thor. But instead his father got a role in the movie (Selvig).

They are both from Sweden.

It's incredible! Very few shows actually make me yell at the television, and this is one of them. So stoked for season two!

Blueeyedbeast - Just like Nathalie Portman in Ep1! I do belive, however, it takes a good actor to deliver emotions by hardly speaking and not showing much of his face. Peter did a great jobb with that.

@Floke

I'm guessing you are referring to "Dolph Lundgren" as "Ivan Drago" in Rocky.. ? :)

As with Alexander, Joel hardly have any accent. Not that I have noticed anyway, and I've seen quite a lot of True Blood.

THING IS, HOW WILL THEY GO ABOUT DOING THIS ROBOCOP? REMINISCENT OF WELLER OR SOMETHING NEW? I DON'T WANNA SEE A MORE STREAMLINE CYBORG, THE GUY LOOKS SLIM ENOUGH TO FILL A PRACTICAL SUIT, WELLER HAD TO BE A SLIM GUY TO EVEN IT ALL OUT...

BUT I JUST WANNA KNOW WHERE THEY TAKE THIS, AND IF THE AUDIENCE WITH FANS OF ROBOCOP WILL ACCEPT IT, BUT THE WAY I SEE IT, IF YOUR GOING TO DO IT LIKE SAY FOR EXAMPLE THE JOKER..YOU GOTTA SEE HIM IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT WAY YET STAY TRUE TO IT-HEATH LEDGER WAS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW RE-DOING SOMETHING DONE THAT ABSOLUTELY EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS. JUST CURIOUS WHERE THEY GO WITH IT. PEOPLE WILL EXPECT WHAT THEYRE USE TO, QUESTION IS WHAT WILL THEY DO TO MAKE IT ROBOCOP BUT A NEW WAY OF LOOKING AT "THE IDEA" OF ROBOCOP.

@GUNSMITH

Yeah.

It is actually warranted to do a remake (reboot) of this franchisee. The original films made before the breakthrough of CGI.

Today, however, this character can be made really cool. A depiction well deserved .

RISE PLANET OF THE APES-HOW DID IT HAPPEN-, STAR TREK-SAME CHARACTERS WE LOVE BUT TIME ALTERED/ALTERNATE TIMELINE ALLOWING NEW POSSIBILITIES-BATMAN BEGINS-STEPPING MORE INTO REALISTIC AND PRACTICAL..REBOOTS THAT WORKED AND HAVE EARNED SEQUELS. I HOPE THIS NEW ROBO WORKS JUST AS WELL.
GUNSMITH

IF I WAS THE DIRECTOR I'D SAY.."WHAT HAVEN'T WE SEEN ROBOCOP DO AND WHAT IS TOO MUCH?"

DID YOU GUYS LIKE THE JET PACK AND BUMBLEBEE ARM BLASTER??
Seejay
Seejay - 3/3/2012, 9:48 AM
@GUNSMITH

Agree with the ones you mentioned. As much as I despise remakes, they can be warranted. Especially films that rely heavy on effects, and was made during the 80s, and 90s.

E.g. CB-movies.

But there are exceptions, e.g. "The Thing".

I don't know about him as Robocop.

I've heard he's great actor, but he doesn't look like Alex Murphy to me.

@teabag Lol. Robocop: Go-go-gadget stilts :P

ironpool007 - 3/3/2012, 3:35 PM
Sounds good to me. I've never seen any of his work before, but he's a fresh face, which means we'll be able to see him as RoboCop, and not the actor underneath. It's the same reason why Richard Donner chose Christopher Reeves as Superman over more popular actors of the time.
