This weekend, Evangeline Lilly appeared at Emerald City Comic-Con for a panel where fans could question her on everything from Lost to The Hobbit and Ant-Man. The latter is obviously set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it turns out that the actress wasn't too keen on the superhero movie genre before getting a call from original director Edgar Wright.
"Then Edgar Wright called me," she recalled (via Bleeding Cool) when asked about what stopped her retiring from acting. "The only Marvel film I’d seen at that time was Iron Man, and I didn’t even know it was a Marvel film. So I was like, I don’t want to do a stupid superhero movie." Stupid? Ouch. Still, it turns out that there was a lot about this world Lilly quickly realised she loved. "And Paul Rudd, which makes it even cooler. Who casts Paul Rudd as a superhero? Nobody. So I was like, I gotta check out these Marvel guys and see what they’re up to, and apparently, they were up to really cool shit."
So, interesting stuff then, but the panel took something of a controversial turn when Lilly revealed that she's not too impressed with the DC Films Universe. "How have I missed these guys who are making really cool superheroes who don’t take themselves too seriously," she asked before naming a rival universe who she believes is doing it wrong: "DC films."
What she probably doesn't realise is that everyone involved with that world has been talking a lot about "fun" lately, but Lilly has her own concerns, including "a year from now I get to put on a wasp costume and buzz around." Is that a sign she won't appear in Avengers: Infinity War? It sounds like it could be, but as always, we're all just going to have to wait and see.
