Edgar Wright Debunks Alan Tudyk for 'Ant-Man'

Director of the forthcoming Ant-Man adaption denies the rumor of actor Alan Tudyk portraying the character in his adaption, as well The Avengers movie. Check it Out!

Apparently, Firefly actor Alan Tudyk was rumored to portray scientist Hank Pym, alias 'Ant-Man' in Joss Whedon's highly-anticipated Avengers film, as well Edgar Wright's solo-adaption. Movie Web has apparently spoken to Wright, who declares,"That's news to me!," when notified of the rumor.

Though this debunk comes as no surprise, I for one think that Alan Tudyk would be a great Hank Pym, with the exception that hes a comedian, and has worked alongside director Joss Whedon. As for his wife Janet, alias Wasp, I used to prefer Firefly actress Morena Baccarin as her portrayer. This was until someone suggested Baccarin for Maria Hill, whose strongly believed to be "the other woman" in The Avengers. What do you think?

Anyhow, the latest we've heard on the Ant-Man adaption was that it was deep in it's 2nd draft, while The Avengers is gearing up for an April start-date in New Mexico, assembling in theaters May 4, 2012.

The story itself seemed all crammed into the Avengers movie... maybe without Wonderman and Ultron but until the actual Ant Man movie

I'm sorry but I do NOT trust Edgar Wright with this production. I don't think he knows a damn thing about Ant-Man, nor does he care. Didn't he say something about Adrien Brody playing Hank Pym. WTF?? That's a horrible choice! And what is the deal with Hank Pym being a secret agent? Hank Pym is a SCIENTIST, not a secret agent I can see this turning into some kind of Johnny English-type comedy.

I don't really expect a b list actor like Patrick Wilson, Nathan Fillion, Simon Baker, or Alan Tudyk to play Ant Man. The movie probably won't be out until at least 2014 because of Iron Man 3 and I really have to believe that someone who makes themself into a big name over the next few years to get the role. I kind of think the Wasp will show up in The Avengers and Iron Man 3 to lead to lead into Ant Man.

I'm glad. He's a good actor, but not a strong enough one to hold this entire movie and attract people to see it IMO. A supporting role as Scott Lang could work though. :) Great find DCMF!

JoshW@ I think whoever gets the role won't be an A-lister. Hemsworth is a completely new talent. Evans and Ruffalo have never had a leading man role. And RDJ was in the wilderness for years before getting his role.

I think someone like Tudyk will get the role - tho obviously not him now :oP

And as for the Johnny English reference - seriously have you seen ANY of Wrights stuff???

As someone once said, dying is easy, comedy is hard. Wright is EXTREMELY talented. Scott Pillgrim was a worthy action movie, let alone a great film overall. I have no fear of Wright making a less comedic movie. Also, can't you be a scientist and still do secret agenty stuff? Pym does use his shrinking power like that sometimes, doesn't he?

As much as I hate to say it, I doubt Hank and Jan are going to be in Avengers.

I just don't see how they have room to add two more main characters at this juncture.

We've got to remember the budget is part of it.

Maybe they have cameos, but I don't see them being a part of the main cast.

I'd say they get some young up and comers to sign on to play in Ant-Man, have a cameo in Avengers then put them in as main characters in A2 and A3.

i dont get it, i swear hank pym was GIANT MAN before he was ANT MAN...
either way the should make GIANT MAN, ANT MAN seems lame

ABZ@ You took the words right outta my mouth!
LOL

Antman was in the AVENGERS for a nano-second
and then they quickly switched him over to
Giant-man. The Ant-man solo comic book lasted
for about the same length of time. The "ANT"
part is lame!

I'd like to see Hank Pym as "YELLOW JACKET"
(to go with "WASP") and able to grow and
shrink in size. Yellow Jacket & Wasp sounds
much more kickass!

marvel was really acting stupid when they were writing scripts and screenplays for the avengers and the films leading up to it. if they made solo origin films for iron man, hulk, thor, and captain america, and even a sequel to iron man all before the avengers then they should have done an origin film for pym and wasp, in fact having im2 before the avengers was uneccesary, instead of im2 marvel should made and relased an ant-man solo film that introduces pym and wasp in 2010. i have no idea why in their right minds feigie desided to cut the pyms out for a long time. did he think there were to campy for mainstream audiences?!? he should have known that in BOTH THE MAINSTREAM MARVEL AND ULTIMATE MARVEL FOUNDING LINEUPS OF THE AVENGERS(OR ULTIMATES IN THEIR RESPECTIVE UNIVERSE) HAD THE THE PYMS IN IT FROM THE BEGINING
, THEY WERE EVEN FOUNDING MEMBERS OF THE TEAM IN THE ANIMATED SERIES!!! HANK EVEN GAVE THE TEAM THIER NAME!!!! but noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! they need to be cut out for while cause thier to campy for mainstreem audiences says fieige!!!!!
fiege needs to know that we fans actully care about this stuff even if everyone else dosnt and that we long to get we deseve on screen. at this point though marvel should scrapp the current ant-man solo film for theuters and instead make a live-action,big budget made for tv movie ant-man solo film that tells the origins of hank and janet on abc that is set in the marvel cinimatic universe and has a same cast that will apear on the big screen in the avengers and other films. that way they can get the origin they desrve like that of iron man, hulk, thor, captain america while sqezzing time and budget between films. oh and marvel should fire edger right from this!!!!!!

HotHead@ [frick]in QQ more.

Business 101: Exploit a brand people know. People know Iron Man more than Ant Man, therefore that movie was made first, and it made more money than Ant Man probably will.
(Also, Iron Man 2 was made first because Wright was busy with Scott Pilgrim)

Screenwriting 101: Never introduce MORE characters if characters are already fighting for screentime. In an ensemble like the Avengers, with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, any supporting cast, and the Villain all gunning for screen time, its a REALLY bad idea to introduce two lesser known characters like Ant Man and Wasp to an audience that won't care.

Fanboyism 101: Never insult Edgar Wright. He's funnier than you.

In conclusion, you are proving my point that extremist Comic Book fanboys are the most annoying, whiny people on the planet.

Would you rather they make the Avengers as they are now that is looking good, or risk making an absolutely terrible movie that tries (and fails) to introduce and make you care about two generally publically unknown characters? Please consider the options before getting so angry.

Forrestlee@ well think about how alot of kids are going to disapointed that the pyms wont be in the movie when they were expecting them to be !!!!!!! instead of making iron man 2 in 2010,marvel should have hired a diffrent director then edger wright, one who was not a comedian and had directed a major film recently and new how to handle the charecters, to direct ant-man. that way we could have them in the avengers plus not have the critisism to marvel other im2. also joe avreage new s**t about iron man untill he saw rdj's face underneath the suit so i dont see what your point is in saying iron man would do better then ant-man because while ant-man might sound campy to joe public he also might of fought tony stark was a robocop/terminator-type ripoff cyborg. wright dosnt know comic books if it hit him in the humorus, i have no idea why marvel hired him. alen tudyk's head is way to fat for his body let alone hank pym.
