Janet Van-Dyne. The Wasp. Iconic marvel character and founding member of the Avengers. Still absent from the MCU. Yet her existence is confirmed by the character of Hope Van-Dyne/Pym as she is her mother. So why have we yet to hear anything about her. And why does Hank Pym supposedly dislike heroes in the upcoming Ant-Man film? I believe I have found an answer that answers both of these questions. Or I'm just another lunatic online spouting speculative nonsense that is completely off base? Either way I still have a theory and at the very least think it is an interesting one.
Meets begin.
If we can quickly look at the comic version of Ant-Man it is reasonable to say he is most well known for two things; creating an insane genocidal artificial intelligence, and hitting his wife, Janet Van-Dyne. I'm fairly certain you can all see where I'm going with this.
In the MCU, sometime after the birth of Hope Hank hit his wife and she leaves, taking the child with her. I find it likely that the girl, who would sneak into her fathers lab to watch him return from his heroic exploits saw this event, shattering her heroic vision of her father.
Now the question is, WHY? Why did he hit her? For my theory to make sense let's rewind time a bit.
For or a few years I assume Hank and Jan have been enjoying their time together, both as a couple and as heroes(I'm assuming she was the Wasp at some point) running missions with S.H.I.E.L.D as part of what could be considered the "proto"-Avengers Initiative. However after the failure of a mission, which leads to the deaths of innocents and S.H.I.E.L.D members alike, Pym has a breakdown, blaming himself for the failure and expressing his belief that his powers are useless and he needs to change his approach to his missions ( potentially leading him to create an early prototype of the Yellowjacket suit). As Jan try's to calm him done he agrily turns around hitting her in the process. I expect this will cause Hank a great deal of despair and only further his intensifying breakdown. Because of these traumatic events Pym boycotts S.H.I.E.L.D and superheroes, blaming them for the destruction of his home life and thinking that the pressure that come with saving lives is to much for anyone to handle and that anyone who attempts will only be INCREASING the chances of innocents dying.
In an attempt to atone for hitting Jan I believe he will start up his own business in an attempt to help people without deaths being caused by superhero battles.Once Cross takes over I believe Hope will return to his life, to try and return him to the hero he once was, despite her mother vocally disliking the idea of her involvement and then that's where the film will start off.
Well I hope you all enjoyed this theory and please thumb it up if you want to see more of my theory's. I do have another about Jan and Hank and the moment they finally see each other again, although it's probably too early to start speculation about Civil War.
