Michael Douglas Is Keen To Return For ANT-MAN & THE WASP - But He Wants Less Exposition

Michael Douglas played a big part in Ant-Man's success this summer. The veteran actor recently revealed that he's currently in negotiations to return for 2018's Ant-Man & The Wasp, and is very much looking forward to reprising the role of 'Hank Pym' - under one condition...

Given Marvel Studios' go-to strategy of inking their actors to long-term deals, we were surprised to learn Ant-Man star Michael Douglas hadn't signed on for any more MCU movies back in July. Since then, the movie has gone on to become a huge success, spawning a sequel in Ant-Man & The Wasp - which will see his co-stars Paul Rudd & Evangeline Lily and director Peyton Reed all return.

Marvel have developed an unfortunate reputation over the way they've dealt with some of their talent before. Luckily, that doesn't seem to be the case here! Speaking to Collider, the veteran actor gave an update on the situation, revealing negotiations have indeed begun, and that he's very much looking forward to reprising the role of 'Hank Pym' - under one condition though:

"I just got a call recently – they want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought “That’s great!” Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one but I had a wonderful time doing it. Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic. Paul, Evangeline, Michael Pena – I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrape Corey Stoll off the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too – he’s such a good villain. And Peyton too. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018... It’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good."

That seems pretty fair. While Douglas' Pym was the highlight of the movie for some, I found his character was held back by his expository role in the story. Given Douglas' pedigree as an actor, it'd be nice to see Pym given a meatier role next time around. In any case, he sounds very excited about returning. Do you agree with what he says? Sound off below!

I want a prequel movie... animated or CGI is fine... keep the action good and suspenseful.

Great News Micheal was a great Hank Pym and seems like a nice guy. I loved the first movie. Can't wait for Antman and The Wasp. It will be exciting to see if Janet survived the quantum realm and can come back. Looking forward to seeing Evangaline as the Wasp too

For the entire movie, I never bought Paul Rudd as the main character. At least for me, Michael Douglas was Ant-Man, don't know if was on purpose or his presence is just too big for Rudd.

I hope the next one is also a heist movie, Ant-Man really lends itself well to that.

IMO he was the best part of Ant-Man. Every scene he is in has gravitas, even if he is Basil Exposition most of the time.

If you have to have expository dialogue, have it come from a great like Douglas (in Ant-Man) or Redford (in Winter Soldier)

Wonder if they can make more scenes like the impressive intro one, with his youner version. Would be badass.

I want Douglas to unload on Tony for being so irresponsible in making Ultron. Cosmic justice.

I'm barely on this site, but I like that every time I end up on a Marvel/DC article Jollem (or Trollem as I've seen others call him) is always bashing Marvel. I appreciate the consistency.

Exposition? Like the backstory stuff? I liked what we saw with Hank and Janet and the opening scene with Hank, Peggy & Howard was awesome. I only wish they could have a practical way to have Douglas do more as young Hank

"Oh shit, Bradley Cooper just did an interview where it was obvious he knows nothing about GotG, let alone the MCU. Quick, get Michael Douglas out there to talk about how great it was and to reference specific things about the movie."

Yes again to Pym telling Stark off for Ultron. He didn't get nearly enough crap thrown on him for that. Honestly it would be great if Pym and Steve came down on Tony for being so reckless with his tech and how his father never would have been this arrogant.

Finally watched Ant-Man the other day. I usually love Paul Rudd and Gregg Turkington, so I thought that this might be the first MCU action-comedy that works, but it didn't. The movie was shit, 4/10. I seem to recal comparisons to IM1. No way. More like Iron Man 2.

I really, really liked him in the movie and was surprised and delighted that he had so much screen time.

All these veterans actors like him, Redford or Hopkins are really great in their respective role.

I hope Marvel will continue that tradition to have veterans seasoned actors alongside younger ones.
