Micro-News: ANT-MAN, SPAWN, BATMAN vs SUPERMAN AND EXPENDABELLES
Edgar Wright talks Ant-Man, Todd McFarlane on the Spawn movie and hints at Jamie Foxx's involvement, Sharni Vinson signs up for the ExpendaBelles and Bendis weighs in on the Ben Affleck Batman casting.
Edgar Wright say he starts pre-production on Ant-Man in October but filming doesn't begin until next year. Once his press obligations for The World's End are complete, he's going to take a month off to recharge his battery and then tackle Ant-Man full steam ahead. He says the script is in good shape as he's been working on it since 2007. Wright also said he enjoyed Iron Man 3, calling it "as close to a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang sequel as we'll ever get."
At Fan Expo Canada, Todd McFarlane said the movie studio has set an end of the year deadline for him to complete the Spawn movie script (really, McFarlane is writing it?). Said McFarlane, "The reality is I’ve got a lot of pressure. They want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So that’s the goal right now.” It's previously been discussed that Academy Award winner and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 villain, Jamie Foxx, is really keen to play the lead in the film so there is some star power attached. McFarlane confirmed as much, adding, "We’ve had some big names, like who you’re mentioning, come to the office and go we want to be in it. Sometimes they give me their pitch, and I give them my pitch, and I go we can get in it, here’s how it goes. And so those types of actors, Academy Award guys, they’re going, ‘As soon as that script’s done, we’re going.’ So once we get this thing done, we’ll get it off the ground with some big names.”
Brian Michael Bendis is also getting in on the Ben Affleck Batman casting debate, adding, "I’d rather see a film directed by Ben Affleck then him as Batman. Against all odds, he reinvented himself as one of our real American filmmakers and it seems like a strange move to now dedicate so much of his life to being Batman. As a friend of mine said yesterday it’s like if Clint Eastwood followed up winning all of the Oscars for Unforgiven by starring in Mrs. Doubtfire. Of course we would all want to see that movie but… : -)"
Sharni Vinson has previously stated that she's keen on Tomb Raider and Elektra roles but it appears Vinson will first join the ensemble of the all-female version of The Expendables, which is tentatively titled ExpendaBelles. She joins a cast that already includes Gina Carano (who wants to play Wonder Woman) and Katee Sackhoff (who wants to play Harley Quinn). Vinson should pick a DC Comics femme fatale to play and maybe those three and pitch a Gotham Sirens/Birds of Prey film to DC Entertainment.
