PEANUTS Animated Film To Open Against ANT-MAN

A release date shift for Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the Peanuts gang's animated movie adaptation of the classic comic strip, has pinned it against Marvel's long-awaited Ant-Man movie!

Pretty much all of Marvel Studios' tentpoles have claimed the number one spot for their opening weekend at the box office. And with Marvel's The Avengers success especially, the forthcoming Phase 2 installments to their ever-growing cinematic universe are expected to do the same.

The Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy movies are the only two on Marvel's slate that're introducing lesser-known titular characters to general audiences. And while the nearest tent-pole to Guardians is Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past, which hits theaters two weeks earlier, Ant-Man's late 2015 release had no real box office competition either, until recently.

It was announced last month that Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang, from Charles M. Schulz's classic comic strip and TV specials, were coming to the big screen. And with 20th Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios reportedly aiming for a animated Peanuts franchise similar to Ice Age's, which has a worldwide total gross of over $2 billion, the studio has apparently moved the film's original November 25, 2015 release date to November 6, 2015.

And that's the very date Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures recently announced they'll release the long-awaited Edgar Wright-directed Ant-Man movie. However, given that Disney will surely be banking off the inevitable success of Marvel's The Avengers sequel, Ant-Man not being a major hit wouldn't be a major loss. Of course, it's far too early to be sure. But, what do you think?

Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers 2” on May 1, 2015; “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015.
