Peyton Reed Emerges As Frontrunner To Replace Edgar Wright On ANT-MAN

The Break-Up, Yes Man, and New Girl director Peyton Reed is now said to be the frontrunner to replace Edgar Wright (The World's End) on Ant-Man, and with two $200+ million grossing movies under his belt, he may just be exactly what Marvel want. Check it out!

The Wrap reveals that Peyton Reed (Down With Love) is the new frontrunner to helm Ant-Man for Marvel Studios. This is the first time his name has emerged after they seemingly failed numerous times to find someone willing to take over from Edgar Wright after he departed the project over creative differences. The fact that the site names him as a frontrunner could mean that he's now likely to be confirmed sooner rather than later, especially as Disney still want to make that July 17th, 2015 release date. While Wright has never had a commercial hit, Reed helmed The Break-Up, which grossed more than $200 million worldwide, and Yes Man, which grossed $223 million worldwide. How would you guys feel about Reed directing Ant-Man for Marvel?

Update: THR reports David Wain ("Role Models") is in contention too.

Quite the downgrade, looking at Reed's filmography, but I'm glad they found somebody. Still, I will need visuals to get excited

They shouldn't be getting a comedy director, unless it's a British one! Everyone knows British comedy is far superior to American comedy, the only exception being Frasier!

I hope Marvel knows what they are doing. I thought Yes Man was pretty good, hopefully he'll be the right fit.

I hope this guy says yes. No...no pun intended. I have been waiting for Edgar's film for 8 years and now I won't get it. The news actually made me very upset. I believe Wright had the vision to really make Ant-Man something special. Marvel clearly (if the rumors are true) are looking for a specific kind of director and I actually hope they choose Peyton. Or i guess at this point just make the damn thing. Give it to Joss for his fathers sake.

But despite that, why the [frick] are they so hellbent on a comed director?! I mean, you don't have to have a guy that's only done comedies to do a comedy! Stretch out for christ sakes!

"New Girl" is a good plus on this guy's resume. I believe that film won an/numerous award(s) for having one of the best shows on television next to modern family. I also quite enjoyed "Yes Man" too! :)

You don't care, but you still opened the thread, and replied.

Someones full of shit.

Lol, how hypocritical coming from the same guy who just said they didn't give a sh** about the "22 Jump Street" director's opinion on Wright departing from the film on the other thread. lol

[frick] YES. I loved Down with Love, and think Reed would be a great choice. In fact, he almost directed the first Fantastic Four film, but his vision was too "strange" for the studio so they went with someone else instead.
