Pilou Asbæk put himself on the map playing the twisted Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, and he's since portrayed a number of villains in Hollywood. The actor recently made a surprise appearance at the end of Uncharted, for example, and will next be seen as yet another antagonist in Prime Video's Samaritan.
We spoke to Asbæk about that movie earlier this month, and while our time was limited, we did take the opportunity to point out that we're excited to see him kick Jason Momoa's ass in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
As you might expect, he was careful to say too much. However, our comments still got a big laugh out of the actor and he responded, "Yes! That’s gonna be cool...but I can’t say anything!"
The belief is that Asbæk will play Mongo in the Aquaman sequel, the tyrant ruler of Necrus, the "Black City". Mongo has great disdain for surface dwellers, who he feels have no place below the waves, so you can probably imagine why he'd have an issue with Arthur Curry ruling over Atlantis (the hero is half-human, after all).
Unfortunately, the movie is now a long way off. After originally being scheduled for this year, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was pushed back to March 2023 before shifting to December 25 later that same year just last night.
We're sure it will be worth the wait, of course, and it should be a lot of fun seeing what Asbæk brings to the table in what looks set to be another memorable villain role for the actor. In the meantime, you'll be able to see him in action in Samaritan, and you can trust us when we say he steals the show in that action superhero movie.
Samaritan premieres exclusively on Prime Video globally tomorrow, August 26.
