Following the massive success of It, another of Stephen King's best-selling novels is getting the big screen treatment: The Tommyknockers.

THR reports that James Wan, the director and producer behind Aquaman and The Conjuring movies, and Roy Lee, one of the producers of It, are teaming-up for a new adaptation of the iconic writer’s 1987 science-fiction-horror book.

The pair will produce the project, which tells the story of a town in Maine which "falls under the influence of a dangerous gas from an unearthed space craft."

There was a 1993 TV miniseries of The Tommyknockers which was produced by the man who currently holds the rights, Larry Sanitsky. Here's what he had to say about this new take:

“It is an allegorical tale of addiction (Stephen was struggling with his own at the time), the threat of nuclear power, the danger of mass hysteria and the absurdity of technical evolution run amuck. All are as relevant today as the day the novel was written. It is also a tale about the eternal power of love and the grace of redemption.”

Tell us, have you read The Tommyknockers? Do you think the time is right for a new adaptation? Sound off below.

@DoubleD - How is it compared to others? I feel King is very hit or miss. How scary cant this be?

@DoubleD - I have to and saw the movie when I was 9 or 10 and was just talking about it two days ago, cause it still gets in my head.

@DoubleD -
I read the book, too, and ultimately lost interest and dumped it.

@Menks123 - Not really scary, it's a sci-fi story. Without going into spoilers, the most interesting thing is to see how the townspeople transform into something else. I recommend it.

I have read it as well. It is not one of his that I ever felt like reading a second time as I have with a number of his books like the Shining, It and the Dark Tower series. Maybe I’ll give it a try again.

@BreakTheCode - Agreed. I want one more adaptation of The Shining, that borrows elements from Kubrick's film and the miniseries.

I'd love if they could do a Stephen King Cinematic Universe leading into The Dark Tower. Hopefully not written by Akiva Goldsman this time. Some of my all-time favorite horror movies are based on Stephen King's books, and I want all of them to get the proper treatment.

Of course, idk if I should be so excited, as I have only read part of The Stand, but still. Lol.

@SisterSunday52 -

11/22/63 is amazing and well written, absolutely loved it. I haven't read a lot of Stephen King either but I always look forward to his adaptions

@SisterSunday52 -
I just don't get how Akiva Goldsman keeps getting work. He's the only element that makes me fear for the Teen Titans show.
Akiva fails up so hard he's left the stratosphere.

@Battabing - He won and Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for A Beautiful Mind. Maybe people think they will get THAT Akiva Goldsman...? Honestly I don't know how he keeps finding work either.

because it worked so well the first time.

SisterSunday52 - 3/29/2018, 7:27 PM
@TheRealTomServo - It's not like there has never been a time where the newer adaptation was better than the original. John Carpenter's The Thing, Andy Muscietti's It, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier, The Incredible Hulk, etc. All of them better than their initial adaptations. Sure, this one may end up just as bad, but it could also be better than the original as well.

@SisterSunday52 -

- the thing film before carpenter’s wasn’t even bad. just dated.
- the new it film had a [frick] ton of problems.
- i’ll give you that one.

SisterSunday52 - 3/29/2018, 7:35 PM
@TheRealTomServo - "[frick] ton" of problems or not, it was still better than the first part of the TV miniseries.

Otherwise, you see what I'm saying? It MAY suck, but it might also have a chance of being better than the original.

@TheRealTomServo - well, It was better than the original it. The last Tommknockers had a tv budget. This is James Wan. It's going to probably be good
TheRealTomServo
TheRealTomServo - 3/30/2018, 4:05 AM
@noahthegrand - he’s only producing it though. he’s previously produced all the saw sequels, both annabelle films, and the later insidious films.

he may have an okay track record as a director, but as a producer? well...
