Director James Wan Says AQUAMAN Will Be A "Swashbuckling Action Adventure"

Justice League may have wrapped, but for Jason Momoa there's still more work to be done as the King of Atlantis, and according to James Wan, Aquaman will be setting off on a high seas adventure.

It's well known that Atlanteans will play an important role in Zack Snyder's Justice League, and it's safe to assume that Aquaman director James Wan will have a hand in shaping Atlantis for the film. The Aquaman cast is already coming together with Jason Momoa as the titular hero, Amber Heard as Queen Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Vulko, and according to Wan, fans will get a brief taste of what the King of Atlantis' standalone film will be like in Justice League.

"I think Amber and Jason Momoa, in their moments in Justice League, [are] going to give the rest of the world a flavor of what their own standalone movie could be," said Wan. "And that is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do."

When asked about the tone of the 2018 film, Wan went on to reveal that Aquaman would be heading on a high seas adventure that takes inspiration from some classic films. "I kind of don't want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I'm going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story," revealed Wan. "It's ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone."

What do you think? Do you like the idea of Aquaman going on a swashbuckling action adventure akin to Raiders of the Lost Ark?

I like James Wan and I like that premise... So I have no issues with this movie yet. Just hoping Momoa can give us a good performance.

Really would've preferred an epic saga feel, akin to LOTR or Game of Thrones. Explore the reality of an underwater kingdom with a bit of magic.

James Wann is such a cool guy, I think this will be dope but lets be real it's in the same year as Ifinity War, The Batman, Justice League part 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp and fricking Black Panther (deadpool 2?)

It's hard to place this high on my anticipation list, but I will see it anyway

It's time to green light a movie for the best team in comics.
