As The Number Of Female Superheroes Increases, Could We Finally Get An A-FORCE Movie?

In a new interview, Marvel President Kevin Feige has promised that we'll soon see as many female superheroes in the MCU as male ones and drops some hints about them being brought together for a team-up!

We've been hearing for a while now that Marvel Studios could be plotting a female-led team-up movie (which a number of actresses have pitched to Kevin Feige) but there's been no movement on that beyond confirmation that a Black Widow spinoff is in the works. When Screen Rant recently asked Feige about the possibility of A-Force, he admitted that he's "cagey about anything post-Avengers 4."

However, he did say the following about where he expects things to go with Marvel's female heroes:

"But, as the plan goes forward I think frankly we'll be ... you know, eventually I think we're going to reach a time where it's not just ... listen, it would be amazing to see all of our female characters the way we have seen ... most, never all male, but primarily male. I think we're getting to the point soon where we have so many great female characters that those are just our heroes as opposed to when are they all female, all male. It's just the Marvel heroes, more than half of which will be women."

It definitely sounds like Feige is hinting at an A-Force movie or at least a team of Avengers that's primarily female (as opposed to now where there are probably three times as many male characters on the team compared to the women). Time will tell on that front but it's going to be a lot of fun seeing a more diverse roster of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, don't you think? Share your thoughts down below.

It doesn't sound like he is hinting that at all, at least in this interview. He's saying almost the exact opposite. He wants women featured a lot more obviously and having their own movies, but he's literally saying that he hopes to grow beyond the mentality of having an "all male/female" team for reasons and that it'll be just all Marvel heroes. He's staying true to his method, just make good movies and feature the heroes that will tell a great story rather than shoehorn a movie/story to fit some kind of hero quota they need to maintain.

@Zer0squad - exactly. "Uhhh, yes, I mean...look...you know, we have many women heroes...and eventually...listen...we're definitely, I mean probably...I don't [frick]in know do I?"

I guess X-men and FF should be introduced first, in the MCU. And SHe-Hulk ofcourse...

You know who we need next, Feige:

@L0RDbuckethead - Personally I'd rather see Spider-Woman before She-Hulk, better relationship with Carol too.

@Zer0squad - Touché, that's a good point. I just have never really been that interested in a live-action Jessica Drew.

@Zer0squad - What’s the elevator pitch for Jessica Drew, as a character? I’ve never read much of her, but she’s always come across as a vaguely-superpowered-spy type when I have, which doesn’t seem different enough from Black Widow (or the rest of SHIELD) to be a priority.

@Zer0squad - hell no, I want She-Hulk before Spider-Woman that's asinine to say that the other way around.

@Chewtoy - she really isn't, and the whole reasoning for her character taking the mantle of "spider-woman" has nothing to do with her arc - it was an IP ploy at Marvel to make sure DC couldn't do a spider-copy.

Both companies did stuff like that all the time, especially in the 80's

Yes, and those are reasons why I don't think we need a live-action Spider-Woman film (yet). She-Hulk on the other hand, would be an awesome film. Show her already established as a lawyer working in NYC.

@L0RDbuckethead - I think if they did Jessica it would definitely be smart to cast young and have someone grow into the role, there's a lot that could be done if they introduce a character like her as a civilian at first

Tho I do agree, I would like to see if we could make a live action She Hulk work. I think it would - but it would also have to decide what it wants to be - I could see one person wanting to make a super powered version of the cliche "she wants it all" romcom versus a story about a super powered lawyer who is also green and wears suits. its almost as if Vision's outfits in Civil War were a way to normalize stuff like that for people, because if we ever get a She Hulk film... Whoever the writing / directing team is, they'll need to have a specific vision to make her work as a solo character (I think she's one of a few characters who would benefit from doing a one and done solo film if we start to move towards those or two parters, the way ant man seems like it may not be a trilogy)

speaking of sequels, wth is up with Doc Strange 2? Is that no longer happening or did they just go dark on news about it cause of infinity war?

@ftf530 - Yeah, there are a lot of factors at play when it comes down to a female-led film like a She-Hulk film. Also, I'm not sure if Marvel even has her rights (they might be at Universal, like Hulk's), so doing a She-Hulk film could be tricky. Also, I think Ant-Man will definitely be getting a third film, it'll just be toward the end of Phase 4.

I assume Doctor Strange 2 will occupy Marvel's November 2020 slot, although they haven't confirmed anything officially yet, other than the announcement that Derrickson will be returning to direct the sequel. I assume that Chiwetel Ejiofor will be back as the villain of the film as Mordo. It's definitely one of my most-anticipated upcoming MCU films for sure.

@L0RDbuckethead - I hope they do a third ant-man, and I'm excited to see what the avengers bump does for A+W's box office

I’m cool with an all female team-up mjovie but just please don’t call it A-Force. I hate that name.

But you know what I want to see even more than that? A Scarlet Witch solo movie.

There isn’t really a reason to have a female only superhero team other than that story where they have to fight all male brainwashed superheroes (I dont remember if it was a lady liberators or a-force story and don’t both to look it up). Not that I say they shouldn’t make an all female superhero movie, because I’m all down for it. The starpower is already there, and Marvel Studios proves they can handle anything lately

Nobody wants that. I love female superhers
Os but every team should have a balance. To have an all female team is to brand the movie as an SJW project and I'm sure Feige would never want that.

I preffer a X-Women movie.
The female xmen have always been the best females of Marvel, even Whedon has said it, so I preffer Feige to wait for that

I'm up for a predominantly female Avengers film. It doesn't need to be labeled as anything special, just have more women than men in the roster. There are ways to do that movie that emphasize the female aspect, and ways to do it that make it more incidental, and both have their bonuses.

Sort of off-topic, but I really regret my comment about them cutting that reference to the gay character in Jurassic World. I said something to the effect of "a lot of blockbusters are edited down, so a throwaway line may get cut" or whatever... but I just saw the movie.

What a flabby piece of crap of a film and while that line wasn't great, it's not like anyone else's lines were any better. I'm not defending, even implicitly, any decision they made in that editing room, because an uninterrupted dinosaur gay pride parade would have been more entertaining and innovative than "run from dinosaurs iteration 5". [frick].

@Spock0Clock - Imagine in a few years a female Uncanny Avengers movie. Cap, Wasp, Psylocke, Rogue (or Storm), Betty Ross as Red She-Hulk, Carol, America Chavez, Jane Foster as Thor or Valkyrie, Scarlet Witch, Suzan, Spectrum, X-23 and Widow. I'd rather die than see Riri Williams as Iron Man. And Roberta Mendez would be Cap, of course.
