BOX OFFICE: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Tracking Indicates Highest Opening In History

Tracking figures for Avengers: Age of Ultron have been released, and it appears as if the sequel will not only top 2012's first instalment, but also have the highest opening weekend in box office history. Is this the movie to knock Avatar from the top spot at the worldwide box office? Read on for details...

Deadline has the tracking info for Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it's already tracking better than The Avengers did back in 2012 (which far exceeded expectations at the time). That movie opened with $207.4 million, the highest opening ever in North America to this day. The sequel is expected to far exceed that however, and advance ticket sales are already said to be outselling the first instalment by a large degree. A Fandango spokesman tells the site: "Theaters around the country are sold out and managers are right now adding showtimes to meet the fan demand." The site meanwhile adds that unaided awareness is below The Avengers, and while that could make a minor difference, even opening with the same amount (or less) as the first movie will mean that it ends up being a huge box office hit. Whether or not is surpasses $1.5 billion by the end remains to be seen...

I'm thinking 1.3 bill. There must be some people that saw the first one out of curiosity/hype, but have no desire to see the sequel.

But it'll still be a monster, of course.

Can't wait for next year. It will be cool to see if Batman or Captain America will win the Box Office. Obviously this will beat BVS. Come 2019 it might be a close race between JL and Avengers though.

This should surprise no one. It also shouldn't surprise anyone when Star Wars, BVS, and Civil War end up doing gang busters.

Highest-grossing film of the X-franchise. Same goes for every CBM.

Except Sony--Spider, Spider-Man.

I'm calling it now this will hit $250-300 million in the US on opening weekend. Where it ends up from there depends on the quality of the film. CBM's don't make that kind of dough unless people really like the movie which was the case with Avengers 1. The haters can whine all they want but the General Audience loved Avengers 1 which is why it's the highest grossing CBM of all time. Quality doesn't always equal success but with a big film franchise like this the quality of the film plays a big part in it's success.

It will undoubted surpass the 1.5 billion. Foreign box office has grown a lot these last few years. The only question is will it pass Avengers domestic box office of 623 million. I am hoping it takes down Avatar's 760 though.
