Marvel Co-President Discusses Tony Stark's Return In THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Initially talking about directing the Agent Carter short film, Marvel Studios Co-President Louis D'Esposito tells IGN Tony Stark may be up to old tricks in The Avengers sequel while co-leading the team!

"Obviously, we're big in connectivity... you can see it in all our films," Louis D'Esposito told IGN when the interviewer suggested that J.A.R.V.I.S and Ultron could be connected. "It's one big Marvel cinematic universe and there will be some connectivity." What's next on Tony Stark's emotional arc? "He's leading the team with Captain America. I don't know where he's at 100%; we're still developing the screenplay and Joss Whedon is writing furiously to get that finished," D'Esposito continued. "But obviously I've seen a couple of drafts [so] it's hard for me to say at this point what [Tony] is doing and what his emotional mindset is. You can see where it was where we left in Iron Man 3 - he's in love with Pepper, he's made a grand gesture to blow up the suits at that point. But at the end, he couldn't help himself and I think he will go back to tinkering; that's what he does." In other Avengers: Age of Ultron news, William Shatner recently commented on his former Boston Legal co-star James Spader joining the Marvel sequel as the subtitlar villain. "He's going to have trouble," Shatner told the Huffington Post. "He's so full of life and love that acting as an automaton will be very difficult for him." What do you think?

So far starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen in negotiations to join, The Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon from his screenplay, and is slated to begin production in March 2014 and release on May 1, 2015.

No...no....[frick]ing a, NO! Captain America NEEDS to be the ONLY one leading the team. [frick] Tony's overexposure. He is officially Marvel's Batman as the most over rated superhero ever. It's been pissing me off for awhile and now... [frick] it. I'm pissed off as [frick].

@EdgyOutsider If I recall correctly, Tony has been leader of the Avengers when Cap isn't in the team. Making them both leaders is a nice choice imo.

Captain america isnt the only one that has lead the team, hell, he did not even join until a little later on and tony was leader, cap became leader when quicksilver and scarlet witch became part of it , if i remember correctly so im fine with them being CO-leadersaslong is cap is the one calling the shots on the field

Iron Man makes the money and gets the girls, Captain America is the hope and gets the young boys (non-pedo though).

Hmm...would be cool if Tony has the black and yellow suit from the current run. Or is that too soon?

plus that was a big part of avengers earths mightiest heroes, that co leader dynamic until tony takes a step back and makes cap the only leader in the final season so this is just a theory but i think tony might step back from the team by the end and cap might become the only leader

To anyone bitching about Stark being the leader...

In the comics, Stark WAS the first offical leader the Avengers ever had. He was definitely the Leader/chairmen in issue #2.Cap pops up in issue #4, but Cap is not made the leader until issue 16 where the Avengers were just him, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye after everyone else left.

Except for Cap, Stark has been the Avengers leader more than anyone else. It's a role they vote used to on and many an Avenger have been in it, but Stark is only beat out by Cap, and honestly, not by much. All this was established way before any movie, it's the way the series was.

So to sum it up, Cap in the movies called the shots once they decided to be a team. Stark didn't call any type of battle plans and even if he did, from the comics alone, they would have been comic accurate to have Stark as leader, ESPECIALLY in the Avengers early days

Anyone who says "I have never seen Stark as the leader. This is a disgrace!" Or "I never seen Stark leading any Avengers!" Etc, not only doesn't know what they are talking about and have a limited knowledge on the team, they never read much of the original run obviously.

blackjack- i think by the box office he meant people who went to the film and liked it told their friends to go and see it and they liked and so on so forth and the idea of a guy hiding behind this face of evil is avery cool idea imo and it might have looked good to them on paper, alot of stuff in movies looks good on paper then it does on film because they have more detail and insights by the filmmakers to help explain the ideas ,just saying.

Doesn't really matter if boyscouts like Superman, Captain America and Cyclops lead, GOATS like Bats, Iron Man and Wolvie will always overshadow them.

Stark is the face of the team to the public, while Cap is the quarterback calling the plays on the battlefield.....it's been this way for a long ass time with the Avengers, they been a "two-headed monster" as far as leadership is concerned for a long while now

Fans-"OMG!! ANOTHER TONY STARK SHOW WHY IS HE LEADING FOLLOW SOURCE OF MATERIAL?!?!

IF anyone of you [frick]ing idiots read the comics, Ironman and Cap has always been the two to lead the avengers. Tony more than Cap. Get over it. You complain of following the source, and technically this is following it. Cap can lead Avengers into battle (like in the first movie), and Stark can be the strategist and master plan-esque guy. That's generally how it is in the comics. So shut the [frick] up for [frick]s sake.

blackjack- i think in the context of the film, it works because it makes the mandarin avery personal foe to tony stark then ever before, in that tony creates The Mandarin out of killian who was this naive, good minded guy who wanted to better himself and the world and thorough tonys major flaw, his arrogance realizes that he is anobody, he is anonymous and he likes that and exploits it by working in the shadows manipluating events to his benefit which the mandarin is mainly know for doing, especially in the modern comics and it creates parallels between him and tony of Killian/The Mandarin working in the shadows and is forced to reveal himself while Tony/iron man being a hero of the public and forced to retreat into the shadows and how extremis ties to them both in that killian always wanted to better/stronger which extremis does and how tony wants to be a stronger btter iron man and realizes he already is even without the suit and another parallel is how Killian was corrupted by his science literally and figuratively while tony was saved by his science, he is an dark mirror/foil for Tony, this article does abetter job imo of explaining it, it may not change our opinion, but it is a good read none the less http://ronriii.tumblr.com/post/50492140064/aldrich-killian-is-the-mandarin
