AVENGERS 4: 15 Characters Confirmed For The Sequel And 8 Rumored To Appear

Avengers: Infinity War is well on its way to becoming the first summer blockbuster to hit $2 billion at the worldwide box office but with so much excitement surrounding the sequel, it's easy to imagine Avengers 4 performing even better. Time will tell I'm that front but as fans start focusing on that movie, just how much do we actually know about it and which characters should we expect to appear?

As you're no doubt already aware [SPOILER WARNING], Marvel killed off a long list of characters in Avengers: Infinity War, some of whom could return and many who are surely gone for good now.

Today, we're taking a deep dive into all Avengers 4 to tell you all the characters who are confirmed to appear and those who we believe will show up based on various rumours...needless to say, we think you'll be surprised by some of the names that pop up here, so simply click on the "View List" button below to check out this article in its entirety without having to click through page after page!

Harley Keener - RUMOURED

Remember that cute kid from Iron Man 3 who Tony Stark turned to for help? It was a plot point met with something of a mixed result but Ty Simpkins did a great job and it now appears as if an older version of the character will show up here. That was "confirmed" in a Tweet from IMDb but we've heard nothing about this from the studio and so it's probably best to take it with a pinch of salt.

Hawkeye/Ronin - CONFIRMED

Despite all the hype surrounding Hawkeye ahead of Avengers: Infinity War's release, he was nowhere to be seen in the movie and all we know is that he too was placed on house arrest. While rumours have been swirling that he'll suit up as Ronin, set photos confirmed that and my bet is that he's taken on that persona because his family were among those killed by Thanos when he used the Gauntlet.

The Vision - RUMOURED

We're surely confused, right? After all, The Vision quite clearly died - TWICE - in Avengers: Infinity War and was left a greyed out shell by the time all was said and done. Well, comments from Paul Bettany have pointed to the android factoring into Avengers 4 and there's a chance that Shuri performed enough of that surgery to mean he can be restored even if he is a greyed out, emotionless shell.

Valkyrie - RUMOURED

There was no sign of Valkyrie (or Korg) in Avengers: Infinity War and seeing as we've since learned that they escaped with the half of the Asgardians Thanos didn't kill, surely she'll make some sort of triumphant return in Avengers 4? It certainly sounds that way but nothing has been confirmed so fans of the breakout character could wind up being disappointed if they're hoping to see her here.

Iron Man - CONFIRMED

Tony Stark may be trapped on Titan but he's still very much alive and Robert Downey Jr. - rocking a blonder hairstyle than what we're used to - has been spotted on set numerous times. It's hard to say right now what his role will be here but it looks like his B.A.R.F. tech could come into play in a big way unless that being on set was meant to mislead us because time travel really will be used here.

Gamora - RUMOURED

It's hard to imagine Gamora not being resurrected in Avengers 4, especially as she's such an important part of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. As of right now, though, she's very much dead and while rumours and fan theories alike are swirling that her soul is trapped within the Infinity Stone, we don't know that for sure. What we do know is that Zoe Saldana will be part of reshoots later this year.

Captain Marvel - CONFIRMED

You don't need us to spell this one out for you. Right at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, we see Nick Fury use a pager of some sort to send a distress signal to Carol Danvers, a character we'll meet for the first time in next March's Captain Marvel. However, Fury's actions will clearly facilitate her return to Earth in the present day and that's something bound to help turn the tide against the Mad Titan here.

Ant-Man & The Wasp - CONFIRMED

The only mention of Scott Lang in Avengers: Infinity War came when it was revealed that he'd been placed under house arrest after being on the run took too much of a toll on his family. Paul Rudd, however, has been spotted on set suited up alongside Tony Stark in those apparent B.A.R.F. sequences while Evangeline Lilly has confirmed that The Wasp will have a part to play. That should be fun to see.

Spider-Man - RUMOURED

Yes, Spider-Man is dead but we have a lot of reasons to suspect that he's going to return in the sequel, especially as Avengers 4 is believed to be part of Marvel's deal with Sony and Kevin Feige has previously revealed that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel takes place minutes after the events of Avengers 4 wrap up. If nothing else, expect to see the wall-crawler have a heart to heart with Iron Man.

Thor - CONFIRMED

Say what you will about Star-Lord but the God of Thunder royally f***ed up when he buried that axe in Thanos' chest rather than his head. Now, Thor will have to carry that guilt into Avengers 4, a movie we know will feature flashbacks/time travel to the events of The Avengers as Chris Hemsworth has been spotted on set in his classic costume with Mjolnir by his side, an intriguing development for sure.

Pepper Potts & Happy Hogan - CONFIRMED

Both Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) have been spotted bidding what looked like a tearful goodbye to Tony Stark on the set of Avengers 4 and if that movie really is Iron Man's swan song, it makes sense for them both to be there. In a recent interview, Paltrow seemingly spoiled the fact that Tony and Pepper will be getting married and there's a baby is on the way!

Captain America - CONFIRMED

Steve Rogers had only a very small role in Avengers: Infinity War but despite all those fan theories that Thanos would be responsible for killing him off, it turns out he's still very much alive and shellshocked after seeing his friends die. What comes next? Well, set photos have shown him wearing the suit from 2012's The Avengers and while it's possible he'll don that costume in the present day, I doubt it!

War Machine - CONFIRMED

Of all the characters you'd think Marvel would have killed off in Avengers: Infinity War, Rhodey was probably somewhere near the top of that list. After all, does Avengers 4 really need two Iron Men? Apparently so, because War Machine was among the living after Thanos snapped his fingers and seeing as he's on good terms with Steve, there's a chance he'll be the one to help him and Tony reunite.

Bruce Banner - CONFIRMED

Another hero quite clearly alive at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Bruce Banner still being around shouldn't really surprise anyone, especially as Mark Ruffalo has been quoted as saying that Avengers 4 wraps up a three-part story arc for the Jade Giant. Chances are we will see Bruce transform again too as he's another actor who has been spotted on set, albeit in mo-cap gear and carrying a bindle!

Loki - CONFIRMED

The God of Mischief quite clearly died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War but Loki has escaped death many times in the past. This time seems permanent, though, so why are we so sure that he'll return? Well, in those flashbacks we've frequently mentioned here, he's been spotted being led away by Thor and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents shortly after his defeat at the end of The Avengers...

Black Widow - CONFIRMED

Natasha is another character who didn't have the meatiest of roles in Avengers: Infinity War and considering that she is just human, it a hard to find a place for her in a movie with stakes as epic as this. Then again, she held her own against Proxima Midnight in Wakanda and there has to be a reason Marvel has kept all the original Avengers on the board, so the hero should end up playing a key role.

Nebula - CONFIRMED

Nebula is also trapped on Titan alongside Tony Stark, so who knows how these two are going to get on! They'll need to work together to get back to Earth, though, and Karen Gilman has previously teased the possibility that Nebula will have a very important role to play here (something the comic books have also promised). For now, the role she'll play in proceedings is a mystery to us but expect big things.

Stature - RUMOURED

Perhaps the most interested rumoured character on this list, we know that Cassie Lang is still a small child in Ant-Man and The Wasp so what's the deal with an older version of the character reportedly being cast for Avengers 4? Are we getting some sort of time jump into the future? Will the Time Stone somehow be used to reveal a heroic future for Ant-Man's daughter? We'll have to wait and see.

Rocket - CONFIRMED

Poor Rocket is currently the only surviving member of the Guardians of the Galaxy so he'll have to become an Avenger in this sequel if he hopes to bring his friends back. Seeing him interact with Thor was a great deal of fun and the reaction the likes of Iron Man and Captain America will have to him should be priceless. What he'll actually be getting up to here isn't clear as of right now, though.

Hank Pym - RUMOURED

Another rumour which doesn't seem to have any solid evidence backing it up, many believe that we'll see Hank Pym show up here whether it's to put his differences aside with the Stark family or because he's among the dead after Thanos' snap decision. It would definitely be cool to see the original Ant-Man and The Wasp show up in Avengers 4 but we probably shouldn't get our hopes up for now.

Quicksilver - RUMOURED

Quicksilver was gunned down by Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron but one report claims that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was spotted on the set of Avengers 4, possibly sharing an embrace with his sister, the Scarlet Witch. Is it possible that we'll see all those dead heroes trapped in the Soul Stone with some familiar faces or is a resurrection on the cards for this speedster? Well, we'll have to wait and see

Thanos - CONFIRMED

The Mad Titan's arm may have been left damaged from using the Infinity Gauntlet and he may have had an axe put through his chest but Thanos is still alive and clearly pleased that he managed to fulfil his promise of wiping out half of all known life in the universe. Josh Brolin (and that tag at the end of the movie) has confirmed that Thanos will return and The Avengers will no doubt go after him.

Yeah, it was too bad that the Odinson only mortally wounded the most powerful villain in MCU history with a single attack, after he probably more or less single-handedly ended the wider attack on Wakanda. What a loser...

@Kyos - You know, if Thanos hadn’t said the “aimed for the head” thing, probably nobody would have thought that hitting him in the heart was a mistake.

@Kyos - It almost like Thor wanted Thanos to die a slow painful death for killing Loki, Heimdal, & numerous other Asgardians than give him a quick swift death.........

But Josh did say TASM1 was the best Spider-Man film so its unfair to judge him on film quality

With the stunts they pulled in Infinity War, and confusion caused by filming back to back/at the same time; i feel like a lot of the rumored characters (such as Vision) could be nonsense or direct lies. We have too much access to information now and I don't put it passed the Russos or any actor to mislead the the audience.

@Frshcoupe - Looks like Frshcoupe beat me to it. I am desperately hoping for some Asgardian tech in the next Iron Man suit.
