AVENGERS: ENDGAME Star Dave Bautista Disappointed Drax Wasn't The One To Kill Thanos

Reflecting on his role as Drax in Avengers: Endgame, star Dave Bautista admits that he was disappointed Drax wasn't the one to deliver the killing blow to the Mad Titan who killed the hero's family...

Guardians of the Galaxy established that Drax's family was wiped out by Thanos, and by the time the movie ended, the hero made it clear that while Ronan had been dealt with, he wanted to get his hands on the Mad Titan himself. That... never happened.

Thanos easily dealt with Drax in Avengers: Infinity War, and we didn't really see The Destroyer get any measure of revenge in Avengers: Endgame

That disappointed a lot of fans, and it turns out that Dave Bautista wasn't too happy, either!

While it was Iron Man who ultimately used the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out Thanos and his army, the actor feels that Drax should have been the one to deliver that killing blow to the formidable villain.

"Yeah, I think everybody was [disappointed]," Bautista told JoBlo in a recent interview. "I said in interviews somewhere where that I wish Drax would’ve killed Thanos and I got all these people saying, ‘That doesn’t even make sense! How could you say that? Drax doesn’t deserve to get to kill Thanos!’ And I said it because there’s not a character in the Marvel Universe that doesn’t want to kill Thanos. Of course Drax wanted to kill Thanos. Everybody wanted to kill Thanos."

"So yeah, a little disappointed, cause I kinda take that whole storyline very personal," he continued. "But, I think every character wanted to get their hands on Thanos. I have to say on the record that I love Josh Brolin [Thanos] to death. He’s actually one of my favorite people and by far one of my favorite actors. I love him. He’s such a brilliant actor. He’s overlooked way too much."

Had Thanos not become the MCU's big bad, then it might have made sense for Drax to have taken him out. As it stands, though, it's hard to fault Marvel Studios for going with Tony Stark.

The Mad Titan's death is bound to have taken a toll on the Guardian and his quest for revenge, and that's likely something James Gunn plans to delve into in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Aside from Wanda, Drax is the only one who made it clear Thanos is responsible for his misery in life. Atleast Wanda got the chance and got close to killing Thanos though.

He would have at least deserved to get some good kicks in before his ultimate defeat. Thanos was the reason Drax went on his character's journey in the first place. He killed his entire family, so of course he would have deserved to get him.

Headline: Comic Relief disappointed he doesn't get the most important job of the Infinity Saga.

Would have been nice to get a better fight between drax and thanos, but in the mcu their relationship wasn't explored enough to make it meaningful imo. And drax got a lot of good scenes anyway, even putting aside the funny moments like the "why is gamora" line that was really popular back then, his interaction with mantis in gotg 2 is a really nice moment, hope they double down on that in the third movie.

@roboticJohnson - Thanos orchestrated his families death. He doesent need to kill him, just fight him like a man. But no, he never got any good scenes in infinity or endgame. And only one in guardians 2.

@Noncomforming - yes, but that was just a line at the end of the first movie, it didn't make me feel his hatred towards thanos (granted, that's subjective), whereas his hatred for ronan was more evident throughout the movie. Plus, to me it looks like they dropped that in the sequel, since he never mentions thanos or the whole vengeance thing again. Even in infinity war, when he first approaches him on the collector's ship, he says something about his family iirc but that also felt somewhat unearned. As for the good scenes he did or didn't get, that's a matter of opinion in the end, I can understand why some people may not like the portrayal of the character but personally, I enjoyed it. Maybe he's not as explored as the other guardians, but still good.

He can't even fight Ronan... lol

Besides being the comic relief Gunn made him useless..

In a way it actually works better for Drax's character arc that he wasn't the one who killed Thanos. He started out as such a one-track minded character who was so consumed by grief and revenge that he'd allow it to blind his judgement and put everyone else at risk (like when he lured Ronan to Knowhere in GOTG Vol 1 and nearly got everyone killed) but by the final battle in Avengers Endgame he became part of something so much bigger than himself that it was more important for him to just do whatever he could to help rather than be the one to actually kill Thanos. He basically let go of his ego and his desire for revenge and just did his part to help the overall effort in a much more selfless way.

Is no one going to point out that Iron Man wasn't the only one to kill Thanos? Thor also did.

I knew the minute I saw GOTG1 that drax wouldn't be able to complete his arc and take vengeance for his family, cause gunn for some reason decided to go the route he did with his character.
Still salty about what he did with the nova Core.
There is still hope for the nova Core.

He's nowhere near as powerful as his comic version. Ronan beat him with ease.

He’s C player in a franchise with lots of characters. It is as if Padma Patil killed Voldemort in Harry Potter.

Sounds reasonable.

The guardians lack fight scenes, especially when it comes to characters like Gamora and Darx.

Yeah, I don't understand why Marvel couldn't go without sucking Tony's nuts just once. Nebula or Drax should've gotten that kill. Hell, or even Wanda.
