Kevin Feige Says CAPTAIN MARVEL Film Has Been Discussed "A Lot"

Marvel has been trying to develop a Black Widow solo film for Scarlett Johansson, but many fans would rather see Captain Marvel be the first female standalone film produced by the studio. Badassdigest approached Feige about this. See what he had to say.

The Marvel cinematic universe has done a pretty good job of developing strong female characters like Black Widow (ScarJo), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), but they still haven't made the monumental leap of developing a standalone film for any of their female superheroes. During Captain America: The Winter Soldier press tour, Devin Faraci of badassdigest.com chatted with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and approached him about that very subject.

Kevin Feige: I like the idea if we’re going to do a [female lead] do a new one. Do a wholly new character, do an origin story.

When Devin inquired about the possibility of Ms. Captain Marvel, Feige had this to say.

"We’ve talked a lot about [Captain Marvel]. I think that would be very cool."

That response gives credence to information that Devin received from his sources:
My sources tell me that we will see an iteration of Captain Marvel onscreen by 2016 - either at the end of Phase Two or the beginning of Phase Three - in another Marvel movie. - Devin Faraci

Ms. Marvel and Black Panther are the ones that need to be done. I wish we'd be getting one of them in Phase Three, but they could also be the ones holding Marvel together after Cap, Thor and Iron Man aren't around after Phase Four.

Would be cool and they have mentioned the kree in AOS. Who know maybe they pull a Deathlok and have Skye be the MCU Ms. Marvel... Makes infinitely more sense than spider woman or whatever other nonsense people have guessed (no offense)

I don't know much about her but I'd just have her in Agents of SHIELD or a future Avengers movie, we've got Black Panther and Doctor Strange to think about.

AsgardianHobo - 3/14/2014, 2:54 PM
Since the Kree have been mentioned and possibly shown on AoS and they will be in GoTG, looks like a good opportunity to integrate them into her origin somehow

I think Whedon said that he doesn't like her. But Whedon says stuff. He also said that Vision isn't in AoU. LIAR!!!!!

I agree, just need Black Panther and Ms Marvel in the MCU and I could die a relatively happy man ;) Pumped we're getting Vision, should be an awesome addition to AoU...
GenisVell
GenisVell - 3/14/2014, 3:15 PM
Mar-Vell is the original Captain Marvel, not Carol Danvers. Genis-Vell, his son, is responsible for the reconstruction of the main universe along with Eternity. Give credit where it is due.

I like Scarlet Witch more than Ms/Captain Marvel but that seems to be just my opinion. I'd prefer Black Panther anyway. But for female Avenger, it's SW for me!! Sorry Carol <3

He did say that he didn't like Wonder Man (and I agree with him, worst Avenger ever!) but I think he also said something about Ms. Marvel.

'You know, I like those characters. I do like a character whose powers are a little bit more defined. One thing I like about, you know, Pietro and Wanda is that I know how—I know what they are able to do. With him, it’s very clear, with her, we have set rules for the film. And, um, you know, when somebody’s just, like, awesome and flies around and can punch things you’re sort of like…uh, that actually makes your job harder. The easier life is for them, the harder life is for you.' -Joss Whedon

He pretty much said that Ms. Marvel can just fly around and punch things and he wants more interesting powers in his movie, like Pietro's and Wanda's.

Katheryn Winnick for Ms. Marvel

I hope they call her Ms. Marvel. I don't associate the name Captain Marvel with her character....

I actually hope they DO call her Captain Marvel. No, I don't think of Carol Danvers immediately when someone says the name, but I'm a comics fan. Captain Marvel, to the average viewer, is going to sound soooohohohooooooooo much better than "Ms. Marvel."

It's just a bad superhero name.
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 3/14/2014, 3:40 PM
Anna Torv from Fringe would be my casting choice
MsDarkPhoenix
MsDarkPhoenix - 3/14/2014, 3:44 PM
@Shadow Lol seriously?? Haha he's awful so I don't doubt it :P He just doesn't really make sense as a character. The only cool thing about him, other that Vision, was the bromance with Beast at the early Avengers comics. They were kind of cute! But no, he's still an awful character!!
Luminus
Luminus - 3/14/2014, 3:46 PM
@SwingsetKnight: Why is it a bad superhero name? So you must think Mr. Fantastic and Mr. Sinister are bad names, too?
MsDarkPhoenix
MsDarkPhoenix - 3/14/2014, 3:47 PM
And if they actually bring Ms. Marvel in the MCU, they should call her Miss because that's how I know her and they can't just change her name. There's only one Captain Marvel and he died. You aren't showing respect if you steal his name.
Killersloth
Killersloth - 3/14/2014, 3:47 PM
Anna Torv from Fringe as always is my first choice. Then Katee Sackhoff. But yeh Torv and the Captain Marvel suit, don't think the other would work in real life without looking incredibly stupid and slutty.

She'd also be a great Valkyrie if they were to use her in Thor 3.

Oh yeah, lil' type-casting for her, but I BET she wouldn't mind that, haha...ok, Valkyrie in Thor 3, let's cast her...

Actually, I could almost switch side for Ragnar on that show, dude is handsome at hell (that was a joke ;) But for Phoeny's sake...
