Mark Ruffalo On Why He Decided To Play Bruce Banner!

The recently announced replacement for Edward Norton briefly discusses what made him take a role he wouldnt have a few years ago as well as how he feels about playing a character like Bruce Banner...

Mark Ruffalo has told Australia’s Sunday Herald-Sun that if he had been offered the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk a few years ago, he more than likely would have turned the offer down. Thankfully, he's changed his mind since then:

"I probably wouldn't have done this movie in the past. But because of what Robert Downey Jr had done and where that genre has gone since then, I did it."

The actor went on to say that he he's a little nervous about the prospect of working in green screen and special effects heavy situations, but he's also excited about the oppurtunites it presents. One thing he was quick to point out though is that he hasnt taken the job just for money:

"I have never really been one to go for the cash. If my dad knew how much money I had turned in my lifetime he would kick me in the ass"

Ruffalo finished by saying that when he tested for The Avengers it felt like, "going for more than a job"

The Avengers will assemble in cinemas on May 4th, 2012.

@ tea.... lolololol.... fakiring hilarious!! we want to see more of this class-act english football....... and that's by the way, the first decent pass I saw since soutyh africa from the english.......;-) lolol.

and.... it doesn't matter too much in the avengers, who plays the hulk..... because I think this will be a lot more action-movie than the stand-alone superhero(movies)...... I want to see the green giant in the movie..... and less of his alter ego!!!
And that will probably be the case....!

Just watched The Incredible Hulk again and Norton is great in it. Yeah, I would have liked to see Ed back, but with as many stars as they are dealing with, every little "ego-issue" gets multiplied by said number of stars.

It should be Norton, but what're you gonna do? At least we got Renner to make up for it.

Ego Math for the Avengers....

Robert+Chris E.+Sam= 3
- Chris H, Mark = 1

The Others are unknowns really but lets give them
a combine ego of say 1 =
Ego 2
add in Joss= Ego 5 (Joss = Ego 3)

Still less ego then a Kevin Costner Movie or Sex in the City.

Err he is a great actor, but for me Norton will forever be Banner!
Well Unless he is not lying about the role, and yeah both RDJ and Christian Bale change the CBM style, is not just a simple adaptation of a comic book story, but a respected type of movie(on my opinion).

Lets see how he will turn out as Banner.

Racer Rex, thats the first time I have ever heard Ruffalo described as a pretty boy! I think the guy is a great actor. He always believable and convincing.

Haha! I kind of agree with grif. It seems like a lot of interviews go like this.
"So, did you read any comics as a kid?"
"Oh yeah! I was a huge comic book fan!"
"Really? What kind of stuff did you read?"
"There's just so much! I don't even know where to start!"

Ruffalo is a much better actor than Norton IMO. Just check out Shutter Island or Zodiac if you need proof...let Norton go mumble his way through some other franchise! ;D He was a good Bruce but nothing special.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/29/2010, 9:57 AM
tea: Lol, thanks - you get credit for the mumbling thing though because I'd never really noticed that until we talked about it a while ago! Now I watch The Incredible Hulk and it's as if there's something wrong with my TV every time he speaks. What's wrong with the sound!?

[frick] Norton. :D

He was a decent Banner, nothing too shiny. But, I have seen him give amazing performances. Fight Club, The 25Th hr etc.

Racer, not suggesting he's ugly, just wouldn't think of him as a "pretty boy". Also, I have seen him play lots of diverse roles and do a very good job at it, an actor doesn't necessarily have to come off as intelligent to play a scientist! Thats why its called acting!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/29/2010, 10:54 AM
Ah, this avatar is much better! :)

tea/Integrity: Yeah, it's not as if we lost RDJ! As ROR said, he's given some great performances but when it comes to Bruce Banner, it was nothing amazing. Sure, was passionnate about the role but that turned into wanting to dominate what Marvel were doing so I'm glad they fired him.

HAHA Teabag I have to admit that may not have ever happened to Erin Andrews but it happened to Jessica Kastrop, talk about he shoots, he scores.

Gina Miller or TXA21 has been hit once or twice by a basketball when a practice shot hit the rim and hit her in the head live on the air (Ive seen it happen in person before too luckily Wonder Woman shakes it off)
