Robert Downey Jr. On BLACK WIDOW Movie: 'Doesn't Scarlett Johansson Deserve A Break?'

Revealing other solo movies he thinks should be spawned from his Avengers: Age of Ultron co-stars, Robert Downey Jr. weighs in on Scarlett Johansson's super spy getting her own spin-off! Check it out!

In response to recent discussions and the longtime demand for Scarlett Johansson to get her own Black Widow movie, USA Today recently asked the actress' Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. to weigh in on the possibility. “Doesn’t Scarlett deserve a break?” said the Iron Man star, laughing, while acknowledging that Johansson is about to become a mother. “Look, I think that the interesting thing particularly after [Guardians of the Galaxy] with Zoe [Saldana], even from the first Iron Man where Pepper was kind of this really – to me the Iron Man franchise would never have taken off without [Gwyneth] Paltrow. There’s something about her that grounded the story. She’s not your typical lady in a superhero movie, and then by Iron Man 3 she’s swallowing serums and putting on suits and kicking [butt] and all that stuff. It would be kind of more appropriate for a character that already was like a Black Widow [to lead a movie]. It just seems like whatever Scarlett does people want to go see it.” When USA Today mentioned how Johansson's Lucy movie beat Hercules at the box office, Robert Downey Jr. replied, “The funny thing is honestly at this point everyone deserves a franchise. I think Jeremy Renner is — when folks see the Avengers: Age of Ultron he’s just a rockstar, a badass. And Ruffalo is pumped. He does great (work). I’d like to hear them talk even more seriously about a Hulk franchise, because that’s been one of the toughest ones to get right. But I’m sure that my parent company is feeling expansive and and bold after the summer they’ve had.” What do you think?

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.

I'd be down for it as long as it comes after a Ms Marvel film

Like I've said before, I don't have much interest in a Black Widow film, but if they were able to bring in Renner, Jackson, Gregg, and make it almost a S.H.I.E.L.D. film, then I'd be more interested (although then it's not much of a Black Widow film). So yeah, pass on a Black Widow film, although it is interesting it's been brought up quite a few times lately.

ScarJo can't act, why should she have a solo movie? Give it to Hayley Atwell or Cobie Smulders or flesh out Pepper's role as Rescue. They are way more deserving!

A bit off-topic but I like the sound of that!

Ms Marvel is overrated

I don't care who makes a female-led superhero movie first (Unless that studio's name rhymes with 'pony'). The time to make one is better than ever.

Sorry, but that would be the one MCU film I would have no interest in seeing. She's a supporting character.

No to Black Widow movie.

Yes to Ms./Captain Marvel.

Yes to Hulk 2.

Yes to Iron Man 4.

How about just combine the two into a Hulk/Iron Man film. We all want it.

At this point, though, especially after phase 3, I'm ready for fresh characters. Keep the older flock of characters for team-up films.

Widow is an integral Marvel character and Scarlett is perfect in the role, bring it on.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon

I would LOVE an Iron Man/Hulk movie (with Pepper Potts as Rescue in the mix)!

With the way people say how hard it is to get the hulk right you'd think Marvel studios made 10 failed hulk movies when their first (TIH) was pretty awesome to me.

Hulk 2 needs to be confirmed for Phase 3.
