Amid all the distraction, spectacle and box office subjugation surrounding Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron, are discreet discussions going on behind close doors regarding the Buffy creator's availability for a Star Wars feature? A credible source is now reporting that Whedon is indeed "being courted right now." With Fantastic Four director Josh Trank's recent boot from one of the Star Wars spinoff films, the logical landing spot for Whedon would be there. Latino Review even goes so far as to speculate that Whedon's outspoken criticism of Marvel and his much-examined exit from Twitter is all a smokescreen to buy Whedon the time he needs to develop some ideas. While the spinoff film is a likely spot, LR also speculates that it could also be for a Star Wars television series.
To be clear, Latino Review makes it clear that their sources only state that Whedon, Disney and the LucasFilm Story Group are currently engaged in talks. What those talks are about is anyone's guess. If you had your druthers, would you want Whedon involved with Star Wars?
UPDATE: I was recently messaged by some fine twitter folks who informed me that Whedon previously addressed whether he would want to direct a Star Wars spinoff a few weeks ago at the Age of Ultron premiere in London. Pay close attention to Whedon's reaction to the question and his careful answer.
