Dark Knight Sequel Will Wait - Nolan Booked till 2010

Dark Knight Sequel Will Wait - Nolan Booked till 2010

Bat-director Christopher Nolan is unavailable for a Batman sequel until at least 2010. Does this mean that Warner Bros. may forge ahead with another director?

Christopher Nolan will be directing a new film titled Inception for Warner Bros. in the near future. The film has been described as "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind."

What does that mean for all the Bat-Fans clamoring for a sequel to Dark Knight? Not much at this point. Remember that Nolan directed The Prestige in the three year gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

On a personal note, I hope that the fact that Nolan is working with Warner Bros. on Inception will help ensure his participation in the next Batman installment.

Good idea, it will be worth the time waiting, he is a great director and he can do many other kinds of movies, not only the Batman franchise. I wish the best to Mr.Nolan, and to al the Bat-fans like me, wait and I know it will be worth. Greetings people! ;)

realfirstavenger - 2/12/2009, 8:29 AM
i agree that the wait is well worth it
especially seeing as most franchises of this nature pump movies out one after the other, Batman is a labour of love and cannot be someones sole focus year after year

let him continue to work with Warner on other projects, remember the joy of Batman and once the artistic passion strikes again let him come back for numero 3

and shaman i will go and take a look at your article now
btw does anyone else think that Mr. Burton could come back and make a great Batman film???

Im glad to hear that they will take time and plan this out well rather than push the project for the sake of having another film as what happened with Spiderman 3.

It would only work if it was already preplanned like what they did with LOTR where they almost shot parts 2 and 3 at the same time.

In no way shape or form did this article state that DC/WB would be "WAITING" for Nolan. It states that they have him working on something else. That ain't good news to me!

If they did anounce publically that they would wait for Nolan, then YES, i would agree to say that taking the time to do it right is ideal. I would just like to hear something "concrete" this year about the damn franchise!!! I'm tired of them "sidestepping" the damn issue!!! But no, they say "a whole slew of batman movies are slated" followed by "Nolan's busy on something else". Who can honestly say that this is good news???

People - the WB is a CORPORATION! They don't care about artistic 'quality' or 'vision' - all they care about is MONEY (and right now they're sitting on the comic book movie property equivilant to 'Titanic'!). Right now Marvel's kicking their @ss in the movie-making department and the only other property the WB's got in the pipes (for sure) is the Big Blue Schoolboy. Anyone ever heard of the phrase, "Strike while the iron is HOT?" This smells like in-fighting between Nolan's principles and the WB's greed (think 'JLA'). But since the WB OWNES the franchise, it looks like Nolan is distancing himself and bowing out as graciously as he can (being the gentleman that he is) by focusing on another project while the WB tries to squeeze the Bat cash-cow dry. My bet is that the WB puts someone else at the Bat-helm (someone who'd be more 'open' to a 'JLA' film...)

In my book, Nolan is an incredible director, and his take on Batman has been nothing less than utterly superb! But...
I have the same feelings toward Batman that I do for Superman. Put the right person behind the helm, let them stake their claim on the property and give the best interpretation of the character that they can, and if they do a good enough job and make the story as compelling and entertaining as possible, sold.
I would love to have Nolan do yet another interpretation of "his" Batman, don't get me wrong. But I in no way think that Nolan is the last and final word on the character. If he decides to move on, all for the better. We'll just have to bite our nails and wait to see what's in store for the future. But we also know that whoever they decide to take over, they'll have one HELL of a budget to work with, and some BIG shoes to fill!

It will be his lost for a good pay day provided its just as good as DNK. Personally they can' always just drp a film for others just because of popularity.

Spock - Nolan's not holding out for more money (he's not Samuel L. Jackson for god's sake!), he's fighting with the corporation over the DIRECTION the franchise is heading. It's a clash of 'vision' vs. 'cash'. You've got to at least respect the man for holding onto his principles (even though it DOES suck for all the good little fanboys and girls...)

You all know that WB won't wait, they'll press on and hire another director. Knowing WB they'll bring back Shitmaker. Oh well it was good while it lasted.

Nolan is not going anywhere. They got lucky with TDK. If not for ledger's performance + death hype, y'all would be bashing it as hard as X3. Be glad that he is taking time to do something else instead of touching a finger to the gag reflex and throwing up another bat-sequel.

Rorschach, i love your knew pic.

all i gotta say is... if Nolan is going to do all this other stuff first or whether or not he even wants to do another batman movie... he KNOWS the fans want to know what the plan is... so stop being a distant prick about it. He hasn't himself said anything about any of it.. it's all second third or fourth hand info... Shed a little light eh Nolan?
adamant877
adamant877 - 2/12/2009, 5:14 PM
I disagree, Betty... I think I would have loved TDK just as much without the hype. I LOVED Batman Begins, and boy was TDK a great follow-up!

MarkCassidy - 2/12/2009, 5:29 PM
Yeah betty, i cant speak for anyone else but Ledger was only one of many things i loved about that movie..in fact the only thing i didnt like was how they handled Twoface..i dont think they should have killed him off. Other than that, best damn comic movie iv ever seen!

I agree with Rorschach - Two-Face is just as strong a character in the Bat-universe as Mr J. is (and in many respects, more so because of the relationship that Bats/Bruce had with Harvey BEFORE he had his little 'bad day at the beauty parlor'.

Anyone heard about this crap about withdrawing the Joker from any future batman movies in respect to Heath Ledger? I personally think it's a bunch of bullshit... We all loved the dark knight and Heath ledgers performance but not even heath himself would think that's a good idea. It's [frick]ing stupid and not only do i think they're fine recasting it in the future because they left it unfinished... the joker is one of the most amazing villains ever... we'd be robbing future generations of batman fans from seeing this character on the big screens not to mention robbing ourselves... I think we need to put a stop to this madness. this site TheUltimateJoker.com is taking petitions and i think we need to tear it down!

Pockets, I thought you were crazy until I read the site.
Guys, it's not that serious. Heath isn't that serious. If he originated the role, maybe.
But this is like saying retire the Penguin after Burgess Meredith's death. Retire Superman after Chris Reeve's death!
You get the point.

Sorry, but Mark Hamill will always be my Joker.

If you ask me inception sounds like a name they would give to throw the press off of what they are actually doing. Kind of like they did for Batman Begins by calling it Intimidation Game. Maybe they are currently working on the sequel. One can only hope.

I dont know how accurate it is but I just read that Christopher Nolan picked Eddie Murphy to be the new Riddler & Shia LaBeouf is Robin, and Rachel Weisz may play Catwoman. I was on this site newser.com dated 12/18/08.(just saw it sorry)God I hope its NOT true cuz it sure as hell not funny. Eddie? Shia? Please say it's a poor joke. I dont know what to believe. He's leaving, not leaving? I enjoyed the 1st Batman movie immensely & his second was good also but not like his 1st one. I dont think they should retire the Joker. He is the one most personal to Batman & so the most lethal. There still more to be had from him.

I would actually think about whether I'd pay to see a non-Nolan film if it were related to the previous two movies. They're his style, his movies, his Batman. It would be perfectly fine if they were to try a different version. One with ice skates....

I've seen several posters mention Batman Beyond. It would be a neat diversion if they could get a decent bad guy. It would not work, but it would be really cool to have Kevin Conroy as the elder Batman. Ah, TAS....

whether Heath lived up to 90 and without all the hype (i actually consider hype and overpublicity a bad thing in movies today), that dont mean squat.

TDK was awesome coz it IS awesome and that's coming from a Marvel fan.
