**SPOILER ALERT FOR 'DARK KNIGHT RISES' -- MAYBE?**

Is David Letterman in trouble for giving away the ending to Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises"? The internet has been buzzing over the final chapter of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, and the killing of the Caped Crusader is among the more prominant theories.

Anne Hathaway, who is Catwoman in the latest installment, opening July 20, "wanted to make it very clear that she had nothing to do with what Letterman may or may not have spoiled on his show."

"I saw this movie, the Batman movie," Letterman said. "And in the end, Batman is dead."

After a long awkward silence, he and Hathaway chuckled it off, with Letterman pleading, "He's not dead!" Joke or not, if that is how the trilogy ends, fans will probably be even more upset than their Twitter reactions to this interview.

"Late Show with David Letterman" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS

Damn. Read this on Bleeding Cool earlier. Hope it's not true and just a typically bad Letterman joke.

@batlizard11:

You are probably right about him joking... but I dont think he really thought that batman dies in the end. I think, as far as David Letterman is concerned, that the joke was that batman dies...because batman never dies. In the last 6 or 7 films featuring Batman, he has never died and always comes back for a sequel. That was the joke. i dont believe that David had inside knowledge that Batman dies, otherwise he would have never made the joke. That said...because he made the joke, he revealed Nolan's intentions. David honestly didnt think or believe that Batman would die at the end of the movie... he honestly believed that Batman lives like in all of the films. Never donned on him that Bats might actually bite the big one in the end. I think David inadvertantly guessed the fate of Batman by telling this joke and was reinforced by the reaction of Hathaway.

Batman does die in the end. Nolan has been keeping that a tight lipped secret, not even anyone on Lettermnans status knew the ending. Dave took it upon himself to tell a joke that he thought would be funny, because -Batman never dies- (According to Letterman and every Batman film that came before) It was a suprise to letterman and he realized his mistake immediately after the reaction of Hathaway and tried his best to play it off...but damage was done.

@heavykilluminati: "Nolan is the only man who can kill batman". ..and Letterman inadvertantly revealed it when he made that joke. Of course he doesnt know the outcome of Nolans movie. If he did he wouldnt have ever made the joke about Bats dying. It wasnt the joke that revealed the truth, it was Hathaway's reaction to his joke.

haha! If this is the real ending then its not much of a suprise. People have been saying bats will die and blake will replace him. If thats the ending i have only one thing to say to nolan, you are damn predictable.

@heavykilluminati: "Keldor It not a joke".

I am pretty sure that is was a joke.Ive been watching Leterman for over 20 years, and I kind of have a sense of when he is telling a joke. that is, kind of, What He Does. David Letterman has been making jokes in every single episode of his Late Show starring himself for over 20 years. Not a single episode goes by without him making a joke. He makes jokes. That is what he does. That is why they gave him the job in the 1st place. Anne Hathaway was there for promoting the film. David is there to tell jokes. It was Hathaway's reaction to Letterman's joke that gives it away. Hathaway was there to promote the film, not to give reactions to Letterman's jokes in the guise of marketing.

@heavykilluminati : Based on your comments: "People who believe what letter man is saying are STUPID", "Even letterman sucks nolan dick"...I would have to agree with yout statement about "I guess most of the people here today are kids...." (I omitted the 'LOL' because we are all laughing out loud)

Well, since they are going to reboot batman franchise, of course batman would die. I have "seen" this ending coming from the very beginning.
AnditsOn1
AnditsOn1 - 7/13/2012, 11:01 AM
Hathaway says "david..." which almost 100% proves that batman would be dead. And she further said that she would not be a part of this, which sounded like a joke, but more like an act trying to hide the fact that she was nervious about this revalation.....my theory only though, but if batman really dies as I always suspect from the very beginning, it's not even that shocking.

Why are people so fickle towards The Bat dying? That'd be mad epic.

Anyways, don't they foreshadow that throughout the trilogy? With Raj's talk about him becoming a legend and all. Hence, after he dies, people will always remember what he stood for.

Then Harvey Dent and Jokers talk/philosophy that, "You either die hero, or live long enough to become a villain". And we damn well know the Batman ain't gonna turn sides anytime soon.

So what's all the fuss about? I don't want it to happen, cause of the little kid inside me that thought Batman was invincible as a kid. But if it did, I think it'd be brilliant foreshadowing by Nolan.

Perhpas, Batman dies, and Bruce Wayne lives, who knows? Oh that's right, Dave does. Lol.

2 things..the letterman show is prerecorded. If news got out he did this I doubt WB would allow it to air or put pressure to delete or edit.
But....I've been in the restaurant business for over 25 years and have learned to "read" peoples body language and expressions...Anne had the surprise look as if she had been caught cheating.
