Have any of us really ever gotten over the events of 1988? That year marked the heinous, disgraceful, downright reprehensible crippling (and possible...well hey, let's make it probable) sexual assault of Barbara Gordon (AKA Batgirl, AKA Oracle, AKA the catalyst for Batman's righteous male revenge and that's all she'll ever be known for) at the hands of Gotham's most infamous bad guy, The Joker.

The city was shaken, shocked to its very core - and even though Barbara went on to miraculously regain the use of her legs many years later, no citizen of Gotham will ever forget that shocking assault, which served absolutely no purpose and had no repercussions for anyone involved. Sure, our Dark Knight beat the crap out of the Joker and sent him to Arkham but how long would that last? NOT REALLY THAT LONG...PROBABLY! In no time at all the Clown Prince of Crime was back on the streets terrorising multiple women (and men, and children... but that's besides the point) and forcing the Caped Crusader into battle to save the innocent souls of Gotham.

As if the horrific memories of that awful time weren't enough, we then had to deal with notoriously evil, misogynistic, and hirsute writer Alan Moore documenting, and glamorising this horrendous crime in a graphic novel he had the gall to title "The Killing Joke"! That comic book was written a long time ago, but now we're going to have to contend with a whole new reminder of that vomit-inducing tragedy - because they're making a f*cking cartoon about it!!

This can not be allowed to happen. The events of that terrible day in Gotham must be erased from existence along with the following examples of real-life victimization of/violence against/mild discomfort suffered by women detailed in various forms of fiction without any artistic merit whatsoever:

M
Night Of The Hunter
Sandman
Preacher
Boys Don't Cry
Halloween
The Exorcist
No Country For Old Men
The Bible
V For Vendetta
Watchmen
The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (let's just say everything woman hating slime Alan Moore has ever written)
Irreversible (well, okay, maybe..)
Ulysses
Madame Bovary
The Scarlet Letter
Slaughterhouse 5
A Clockwork Orange
Dracula

The list goes on. We've all lived through the events detailed in the wretched titles listed above, do we need to be reminded of them on screen and in print every day? After all, it's common knowledge that armed men are now breaking into people's homes, tying them to chairs and forcing them to look at this stuff at gunpoint. If we strive to wipe this... this filth from the face of the Earth, in a few years rape, murder, mutilation, casual sexism and all nasty thoughts in general will also fade away. Do your part CBMers: If a woman is harmed in any book, movie, comic, scripture, painting, tablet, carving, or sculpture you own - burn it! You'll be making the world a better place.

If you're buthurt over it leave it to yourself.

And espcially that last part where you said, "Lets burn every book where a women is harmed."
What is your problem? Are you really that ignorant.

You could have just as easily skipped the "satire" and just opened up the topic to discussion. You made no points, addressed no real concerns on either side, and had nothing insightful to add to the debate. This is what people refer to as "click-bait" and is no better that those stupid ad-sites that promise "Ten Cats who broke the Internetz".

It's a torture scene. I tend to be as PC as I can be, but erase the killing joke from history? [frick] that. It's the single greatest story ever written about the sadistic mad clown joker.

Looking at the different takes on Joker. He paralyzed Barbara, brutally killed Jason Todd, killed Sarah Essen, killed Talia al Ghul, cut off Alfred's hand, tortured Tim Drake and turned him into lil Joker, has tried to poison Gotham in laughing gas dozens of times, tricked Superman into killing a pregnant Lois which in turn destroyed Metropolis, the list goes on.

Joker is the ultimate source of evil in comics. We have a character who you can't threaten anything with. He has no love for anyone or anything. All he does is kill, torture, and haunt people. Him doing anything that's deemed too far shouldn't be surprising. In fact one should be surprised if he doesn't go far enough.

Yes, I really have no idea if this is serious or not, but I feel like it is. I love the Killing Joke becauseit shows how truly depraved the Joker is, as well as later, how Barbara Gordon is able to surpass her disability and still aid Batman.

This is the stupidest crap I've ever read.

Let's be honest. You've got noble intentions, @MarkCassidy. Nobody likes violence against women and those who do have issues. But your solution is all kinds of messed up. If your list included only books that celebrated violence against women, then sure, you might have a point. But most of these don't celebrate violence, they simply display it. There's a difference. Literature is art, and art is a reflection of reality. You can't separate violence from reality, no matter how much we'd like to. It's part of life, and including it is no worse then including a natural disaster or a natural death. It happens. Now there's a line, and sometimes these novels might cross it. That's an argument you can make, that some books should be discouraged from being read. BUT YOU CANNOT REMOVE RAPE/VIOLENCE/ABUSE FROM THE WORLD BY REFUSING TO TALK ABOUT IT. That's a naive way of hoping to resolving issues.
