Gotham High: The "Lost" Animated Batman Series

Gotham High: The "Lost" Animated Batman Series

Some time ago the art/writing team of Celeste Green and Jeffrey Thomas were developing an animated series called Gotham High — which postulated Bruce Wayne and various Batman characters attended high school together in their youth.

The duo write on their blog, "About a year and a half ago, we were approached to create a spec series based off of an old drawing of mine that we then sent to DC. Unfortunately, the project got lost in the sea of all the other Batman related projects in the works. But hey, it was still fun to make."

As to the overall concept of the proposed show, they write, "We all go through incredible changes as teenagers: growth spurts, bad skin, a sudden insatiable need to uphold justice and avenge your murdered parents…. Well, that is if you’re Bruce Wayne. As if being a freshman at Gotham High wasn’t tough enough, Bruce’s insomnia and technological fascinations are taking their toll. Instead of spending his time studying, he has begun to obsess over an emerging personality trait: Batman. But under the watchful eye of his guardian and steward, Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce is forced to put his intelligence to good use: graduating high school. But given his classmates, can Bruce survive Gotham High?"

It's the goofiest thing I've ever heard of, but since it DIDN'T happen, it's fun to look at what they were thinking.

Guys, I wouldn't get upset about it. Seriously, it's just a goofy idea that didn't go anywhere. And, Gaston, I agree with you completely: NOTHING is worse than that moment with the credit card!

now that I think of it...the animation is kinda good. It sounds/looks better than X-Men Evolution which has the same vibe. eh who knows if they put some mature themes in there it could of been good.

Okay, I think Life as a Teen going to a High School in Gotham City would be an AWESOME concept, but NOT based on Bruce and his Rogues.

A whole different cast of characters, unrelated to the BatMan characters and maybe have Mr. Zsasz taking Gotham High hostage, while BatMan is away on a mission with the JLA for a Season Finale would be Cool? :)

Obviously it makes no sense if you're looking at it in a Batman canon kind of way, but I think it would have been a fun show to watch. Like some very weird alternate universe that spoofs characters we enjoy watching. Some of you people take Batman way too seriously.

As goofy as this concept is, I like the thought that went into the character designs. Harvey running for class president or whatever is a nice touch. Is that Scarecrow between Bruce and Selina?

Weird thing to think up about Batman, but the art looks great. I'd go for a lighter character but keep the artist for this.

I saw these a few days ago and I think it would have been decent, alot better than Batman: Brave and The Bold IMO.

@Inspace Ra's isnt there, its:

Clayface, Twoface, Penguin, Croc, Riddler, Barbra, Bruce, Scarecrow, Catwoman, Joker, Harley, Ivy, Bane and Mr. Freeze.

WOW. This would have needed some great writing, or it probably would have been terrible, though amusing to look at. Probably would have been better than Superhero Squade, though.

CaptainDingy - 1/11/2011, 1:25 PM
is it just a wired coincidence that Bane, Freeze and Ivy are all together or are they trying to reference Batman and Robin? also Scarecrow( at least I think its Scarecrow) looks terrible, everyone else looks OK i guess, but Croc and Bane i gotta admit look awesome (although Bane should still have a mask not a hat).
