PLANET OF THE APES Director Matt Reeves Teases His "Very Emotional" THE BATMAN Movie

War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves talks here about what sounds like a very different take on the Dark Knight as he readies himself to take the helm of The Batman starring Ben Affleck.

The Batman may have a director and lead star, but it still remains in flux. We don't know who the lead villain is going to be despite the fact that Joe Manganiello signed on to play Deathstroke when Ben Affleck was still set to direct. However, War for the Planet of the Apes helmer Matt Reeves is clearly excited to start work on the DC Comics adaptation as he has more thoughts on what he hopes to bring to the table when the Caped Crusader makes his long overdue return to solo action on the big screen.

"It’s my hope to tell a very emotional Batman story," Reeves explained in a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, "and I do see a very strong parallel between [Batman and Caesar] because they’re both damaged characters who are grappling to the do the right thing in
a very imperfect world. A world that’s filled with all of the corruption that is human." That sounds like the right approach to Gotham City and it will be interesting to see what sort of emotion he brings to Bruce Wayne's world.

"I think that the metaphors of both of the franchises [Batman and Apes] enable you to tell stories that have deep emotional resonance," he continued. "That’s actually what excites me about it. It’s interesting because I was obsessed with both as a child, and yet there is something potentially very adult about what you can explore under the cover of that fantasy. That is what draws me to it, and that’s what I’m excited about." Are you guys looking forward to Reeves' take on The Batman

Sounds like a man who's committed to delivering a competent and potentially beautiful take on the character.

I look forward to him dropping out of the project.

The sounds are good, the weak link could be Affleck himself, seems to be a troubled man at the best of times..

We need a big bold dark Batman with the same style of ott heavy hitting action seen in Batman vs Supes, a man looking to crush the criminals, no more 'BLAM' 'OOFFF'.

Hopefully not the 'jokey' one seen in what little of the JLA film that has been released.

I dunno man...it's a tough job from my pov.
We actually need a VERY good movie to justify The Batman from BvS, and it's GOT to be a f*cking sad story, something awful that would break the Bat, many things comes to my mind, Jason would be the prime example all things considered.
Of course, this is a VERY different version of the character as opposed to the comics, in my opinion, it's much more...believable, but that's a whole 'nother topic.
My point is, i don't know if this is the right time to explore all that.
They might as well leave that for another movie, you know what i'm saying?
You either don't explore that kinda story, like at all, and leave everything to the audience imagination, you know, some clues here and there so we can piece everything together, or you gotta make a f*cking bad ass movie.
Do or do not, there is no try. :P
Of course, they could start to tell that story from this movis, plant the seeds and all, but it won't be the main focus.

@Doomsday8888 - It's precisely why this Batman film should've been BEFORE Dawn of Disaster. The movie is rushed and the only thing it succeeded in doing was showing Batman as a psychopathic asshole with no humanity versus actually showing his descent, aka the death of Robin, which should have been alluded to in Suicide Squad, y'know give the audience a glimpse of this 'new' Batman's relationship with Joker because it's completely unclear. Whether or not you know the comics that rivalry is up in the air and that's on WB.

I hope he doesn't get bombarded with so many Batman questions. Especially since he's currently busy promoting the new Apes film.

I hope that Red Hood will make his presence in this movie.

Very emotional makes me think Red Hood right away... but it obviously could be many other things. That's just what came to mind first.
