The Batman is clearly set to launch a whole new DC Universe (a "Batverse," if you will) for Warner Bros. This is evident from plans for HBO Max spinoffs revolving around the GCPD and The Penguin, though director Matt Reeves has previously played coy when pushed for details on a potential sequel.

Something has changed, though, as the filmmaker shared a very positive update on future plans during tonight's UK premiere of the DC Comics adaptation.

"I really believe in what we’ve done and I’d be excited to tell more stories," he revealed (via Screen Rant). "We are already telling other stories in the streaming space, we’re doing stuff on HBO Max, we’re doing a Penguin show with Colin [Farrell], which is gonna be super cool. And we’re working on some other stuff too but we have started talking about another movie."

This isn't too surprising, though Reeves' comments are still welcomed. While stories will continue to be told in the DC Extended Universe through movies like Black Adam and The Flash, this "Batverse" can put the spotlight on a Batman whose crimefighting career is just beginning, reimagining his supporting characters and rogues in new and exciting ways across both film and television.

With Ben Affleck moving on from the role, Michael Keaton looks set to serve as the DCEU's Dark Knight, meaning we'll soon have two versions of the Caped Crusader on the big screen at the same time. Based on past experience, don't be surprised if news of The Batman 2 is made official shortly after those opening weekend numbers start doing the rounds a little over a week from now.

The Batman is set to be released exclusively in theaters on March 4.
