THE BATMAN Star Robert Pattinson Shares What He Knows About A Sequel And Recalls Testing Positive For COVID

The Batman has proven itself a huge hit both domestically and overseas since opening on Friday, and a sequel announcement from Warner Bros. is almost certainly inevitable. At least two HBO Max spinoffs are also in development, so Matt Reeves' Batverse looks set to be here to stay.

During a recent interview with Variety, star Robert Pattinson was asked if he's been talking to the filmmaker about what comes next, and explained that Reeves isn't rushing into anything.

"We’ve kind of had conversations about it since," the actor admitted. "But, I mean, he spent five years from conception to completion of this. He’s very, very, very, one-track-minded - well, one-project-minded, I guess. And so I think until this comes out, I doubt he’s thought about the next steps yet. Or maybe he has and he hasn’t told me."

For what it's worth, Reeves has said he doesn't necessarily have the sequel mapped out quite yet and likely wants to take a short break from the Dark Knight's world. The filmmaker no doubt needs one, as we recently learned that he missed the movie's New York premiere after testing positive for COVID.

Pattinson can relate, of course, as The Batman's production was infamously halted when news broke that the Caped Crusader himself had caught the virus.

"It was right at the peak of people not really knowing what exactly was going on. We’d set up a protocol to make the project work, and it just so happened I think I was the first person who had to use the protocol. I mean, I was just kind of embarrassed by the whole thing, to be honest," Pattinson said. "It was so early on after we started shooting and everyone was just so sweet."

"Andy Serkis, who I was working with at the time, was absolutely lovely about it. I was terrified of what was gonna happen to production. But it all actually was kind of a good proof of concept for how to proceed, and after that point, nothing really happened anyway. It was lucky."

Luckily, Pattinson made a quick recovery and as Reeves is fully vaccinated, we're sure he's already on the mend. As for The Batman's sequel, fingers crossed we get an update soon!

The Batman is now playing in theaters worldwide.

Tommy could be the surgeon who operated on Alfred after the explosion.

During the sequel, Tommy is able to be close to Bruce as he oversees Alfred's recovery.

@Repian - since I haven't seen the movie yet I can't speak for the context, but I think they would be a cool set-up. Kinda hope to see the Hush arc spread over two movies

Given that the movie was delayed and that I think Reeves has already thought about what to do next (hasn't he spoken openly about Freeze?), I don't see the sequel be another five year wait. Atleast I don't hope so, because I too wanna see Freeze

@bkmeijer - Freeze and Hush have been the two he’s mentioned

@NightBoyWonder - I think Court of Owls too, or was that Pattinson who mentioned them?

Anyway I hope to see Freeze in the next movie and the Court of Owls in the one after, and a Hush subplot across both.
