There's still a lot we don't know about Matt Reeves' plans for The Batman, though the general assumption has been that the filmmaker would skip retelling Bruce Wayne's origin story. However, it's become the norm for each director who tackles this character to put their own spin on the character's tragic past, and it looks like this blockbuster will be no exception.

Thanks to an eagle eyed Twitter user, @WayneG1939, we've now learned that actor Luke Roberts will play Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas.

The British actor was a regular in UK drama Holby City for fourteen years and his previous credits include Black Sails, Game of Thrones, and Band of Brothers. As you can see below, he did a little research for the role (that's Batman: Sins of the Father he's reading), so we're guessing he has some sort of part to play beyond appearing in photographs

With The Riddler seemingly taking aim at Bruce Wayne because of the corruption in Gotham City, we'd bet on Thomas and Martha Wayne having ties to characters like Carmine Falcone and Oswald Cobblepot. That tracks with the comic books, so with that in mind, the Caped Crusader's parents will probably appear in flashbacks.

This is an intriguing development, and we'll be sure to let you know if we figure out who's playing Martha!

The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.

I’m assuming we don’t get put through another alley death scene but we see him through flashback with Bruce as a child or maybe being involved with the Falcones

What if… what if these mad men have the balls to do the ‘his parents faked their death’ nonsense like in the Amazing Spider-Man films?

It makes sense for their appearance. I know people think it’s because to show their deaths. But, I think we are going to get scenes of them committing corruption. Which lines up with the leaks.

Arthur Dayne will always be (IMO) the Boba Fett of the GAME OF THRONES universe.

One scene…total badass…man of few words.

I’m shocked they still are holding off on green lighting a limited series titled ‘The Sword of the Morning’.

That title sells itself. Plus, we can see teenage Jaime and Cersi and whatnot.

Let’s go!!!!

Perhaps Thomas Wayne was the leader of the Court. Then another member decides to kill Thomas to take his place. Martha is collateral damage.

@Repian - that would be dark, but cool. But dark

Not sure I'm ready for that

I always love how fanboys lose their shit over seeing the Wayne’s murdered and Krypton exploding. Like they’re the only ones this movie is for. Yeah for us rabid fans this is the hundredth time we’re seeing Bruce’s parents get shot. But there are literally thousands of people who are about to have their first Batman experience with this movie and don’t know his origin. Swallow your ten second medicine and move on.
