There's still a lot we don't know about Matt Reeves' plans for The Batman, though the general assumption has been that the filmmaker would skip retelling Bruce Wayne's origin story. However, it's become the norm for each director who tackles this character to put their own spin on the character's tragic past, and it looks like this blockbuster will be no exception.
Thanks to an eagle eyed Twitter user, @WayneG1939, we've now learned that actor Luke Roberts will play Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas.
The British actor was a regular in UK drama Holby City for fourteen years and his previous credits include Black Sails, Game of Thrones, and Band of Brothers. As you can see below, he did a little research for the role (that's Batman: Sins of the Father he's reading), so we're guessing he has some sort of part to play beyond appearing in photographs.
With The Riddler seemingly taking aim at Bruce Wayne because of the corruption in Gotham City, we'd bet on Thomas and Martha Wayne having ties to characters like Carmine Falcone and Oswald Cobblepot. That tracks with the comic books, so with that in mind, the Caped Crusader's parents will probably appear in flashbacks.
This is an intriguing development, and we'll be sure to let you know if we figure out who's playing Martha!
The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.
