BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Passes $374 Million Worldwide

Despite pacing slightly behind The Dark Knight at the box office, Christopher Nolan's "epic conclusion" to his Batman trilogy has already out-grossed Batman Begins in its first week in theaters. Read on for more details.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises has grossed $44 million on Thursday, with the current international total being $149.2 million. Domestically, the critically acclaimed finale to The Dark Knight trilogy has grossed $224.8M in its first seven days (including a $160.9M opening weekend), compared to $238.6M for 2008's The Dark Knight.

Overall, the film has grossed $374M to date (which is a higher gross than Batman Begins' entire theatrical run in 2005). Despite pacing slightly behind The Dark Knight (many box office observers believe that last week's tragic Colorado shooting to be at least partly responsible), the shooting doesn't appear to be hurting the film's international intake. The Dark Knight Rises opens in a total of 40 foreign markets this week following its debut in 17 countries last weekend. The threequel has currently grossed $36.6M in the UK, $21.5M in Korea, $20.7M in Australia and $6.5M in Spain.

Stay tuned to CBM for more updates on The Dark Knight Rises' box office intake.

That's reasonable. The tragedy in all affecting those psychologically from going to the movie is wearing thin. Out of respect, sadness, fear, etc everyone hopefully gets a chance to experience the end of this great trilogy. ;)

I still know a lot of people who are avoiding going to movie theaters period, in the wake of what happened in CO. It's the 9/11 effect all over again.

What world do we live in where a person can't go to a theater without fear of being shot or killed?

In just 17 countries (with only 4 major markets), TDKR is performing better than TDK!

In US; TDKR has 224, while TDK has 238!
It's behind but still compared to usually 3rd films critical & comercial state, TDKR is performing incredibly well!

So it's opens in 40 countries this Friday!
& that will be the REAL test! & that will decide whether it will do 1 Billion or not!

It already has outgrossed TASM in UK!

at Filmsfan. To outgross TASM it was not that hard to do. That film is not performing all that well. I did see it and while I did like it somewhat overall TASM was disappointing. My heart goes out to the Colorado shooting victims. I will check out TDKR most likely this weekend.

@TheDesertGorilla The Dark Knight was in cinemas during the last Olympics and it did exceptionally well. If you remember, it ended up being the second highest grossing movie of all time, behind Titanic. That is until Avatar came along and took the top spot, pushing the other two back. Then a bunch of other films came out, and I think it's at number 11 or something now. But yeah, I don't think the Olympics will hurt it. If people want to go and see it, they'll go and see it, Olympics or not.

I do think the tragedy in Colorado will effect the film's box office though, I mean it's an unprecedented situation. People will be scared, because that's never happened before.

I doubt this will make as much as The Dark Knight (which is still the best in the trilogy). I liked Rises, but no where near as much as The Dark Knight, and probably less than Batman Begins too. I've only seen it once so far, but it seemed incredibly un-Nolan-esque most of the time. Performances were all exceptional, but the story felt very out of place compared to the rest of the series.

Maybe foreigners are chiming in on US policy because the US sees no problems interfering or commenting on the business of other countries. It's a two way street. Also, I wouldn't call other countries shitholes without taking a good look at some of your own cities, blackandyellow.

foreigners like uncle jimmy are commenting on our policies because my fellow americans, including too many blowhard dick-swinging frank castle wannabs on this site, can't see how retarded our current policies are.

no, banning assault rifles won't stop determined crazies like the aurora nut, but it WILL vastly reduce the sheer number of such weapons available, which will reduce the number of wackos that can get their hands on them.

no, making background checks mandatory at private sales and gun shows won't mean nobody ever makes a cash sale behind the 7-11. but it WILL make it HARDER for nutjobs to buy weapons.

as many have said, a really determined person like holmes, breivik, or mcveigh will still find a way to do what he does. but sensible people would want to put obstacles in the way to slow them down and thereby increase the chance of them getting caught.

and stop with the second amendment. the supreme court long ago determined that the right of the people to keep and bear arms was ABSOLUTELY subject to reasonable regulation to protect the public welfare. blackandyellow, i do NOT want you to give up that smith and wesson! i just don't think you need an ar-15 to go with it.

TDKR pulled in less at the box office and received worse reviews compared to TDK even though its common for the third movie in a blockbuster trilogy to outperform the second (Star Wars, Indian Jones, LOTR, Transformers).

Therefore, this film UNDERPERFORMED.

Deal with it.

@Otisburg

So many good points. Especially the part about Bane traveling halfway around the world in the middle of the most complicated terrorist plot of all time.
