Christopher Nolan Drew Inspiration From The LOTR Trilogy When Making THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

In order to finish his own trilogy, the director says that he looked to another one - widely regarded as one of, if not the best trilogies of all time, Peter Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings..

Christopher Nolan approached the idea of making another Batman movie with caution. In their latest issue, the director tells EW that the entire process was "tricky", and that his apprehension stemmed from the fact that there are very few great third parts of a movie trilogy - "There are very few very great third films. I think in some cases dissatisfaction with third films comes from the sheer exhaustion of the people making it.". But he then admits that it was Peter Jackson's epic achievement with the Lord Of The Rings trilogy that inspired him to carry on and finish the story he started with Batman Begins.

"I will cop to this: 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy was in the back of our minds the entire time we were making these. What Peter Jackson did was completely different. He had the whole story for all three films; he was physically capable of shooting it all at once. I can't imagine doing it myself. It's one of the great achievements in movies."

Indeed it is. And hopefully after this Friday Nolan's Batman trilogy will be held to the same regard. For more head on over to The Playlist, who have transcribed a few more interesting nuggets from the mag.
