RUMOR: Robin To Appear In The Dark Knight Rises After All?

Apparently, officials from the Detroit areas that Warner Bros are currently doing location scouting at were in fact looking for a hideout for Robin! All the details follow after the jump...

Ok, remember a couple of days ago when I posted the news that Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros were scouting locations in Detroit which were described as a "water treatment plant" and "underground vault area"? Well, Ain't It Cool News have now expanded on that info, with one VERY interesting addition.

According to Eaton County and Grand Ledge officials who didn't want to be identified due to confidentiality agreements, production crews from "The Dark Knight Rises" scouted locations in Grand Ledge's Fitzgerald Park last week.

They looked at the Ledges as well as a water treatment plant located inside the park. Sources say the area is being considered as a hideout for Batman sidekick Robin.

Well, this is something I never expected to see in one of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies! With rumours circulating that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is close to joining the cast, could he be playing a "Nolanised" version of the iconic DC character!?! With Catwoman and Bane already a part of the film, do we even need Robin? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

I'm all for seeing Nolan's take on Robin BUT again I think its a shame that this is meant to be Nolan's last Batman film. Who knows, Nolan is full of surprises so this could easily be true.

Yeesh, if this is true, than Nolan is QUITE the mis-director.
Oh well. If Robin does appear, I hope Nolan would do it right (Which is likely, since he has done justice to every other character so far in his trilogy), unlike the way Shoemaker did Dick Grayson.

I dig it. I've always loved Robin and if Nolan wants to, I think he can pull it off. Plus, I HATED the Gl movie 2 years ago, and that certainly changed now. People's minds change. If he wants Robin, I think he'll pull it off flawlessly.

This is probably not true since I just don't see that happening. But I wouldn't be to happy because I would like to see Dark Victory Robin not An older one again.

Yes both Nolan and Bale have both said no way to Robin in their film but no mention at all has been made of Nightwing. Perhaps they will skip Robin completely and go stright to Nightwing.

Well let's not lose faith yet, Nolan is an Amazing director he may just be able to pull it off.

how would they possibly even know this information? how? who is the "source"? this is information that ONLY Nolan himself would know.

this is just a classic case of someone looking for attention and making stuff up

While I'm not a huge fan of Robin, it would be interesting to see what Nolan would do with the character. Like others have mention, with JGL in talks to join the flick, it kind of makes sense for the role. BUT...I hope we don't see the "Robin" we're used to seeing. Drop the name...the goofy costume and it could work.

Nolan has takin characters that we are so used to seeing as fantastical and weird and made them to be acceptable and realistic in his movies. If anybody can make a robin work, its Nolan. He may not be a kid, maybe a teen from like 14, 15 and up but he could make it work if he wanted to.

This news is fantastic!!! A lot of you need to give Nolan and Bale a break. They (Director and Actor) should be allowed to outgrow the stuff they said years ago when they still needed to overcome Joel Schumacher’s garbage.

I imagine we are getting Richard Grayson.

I’m betting he will not be unlike any incarnation we have ever seen before.

Don't think we'll see Robin.Nightwing maybe if we hadn't already heard from the horses mouth that the character won't appear. They're more likely to be looking for Bane's stomping grounds

or he might introduce him as robin in the circus and in his first crime-fightin mission but then officially let him be his sidekick after he is trained and changes his name to nightwing.

for god sake ive had enough of people saying robin doesnt exist
ok he wont apear on screen ill admit that but he does exist
heres proof that nolan has said
Nolan said
"Lets say that the first three films are batman year one and then next 3 are year two and robin doesn't come along till year two but he is there.
We have a theory for the boy wonder."

That was just after batman begins

Nolan said
"These films take place in the early days of a young batman, whereas richard grayson is still a little kid at this point,no younger than gordons kids."
That was after the dark knight

Trivia from the dark knight...
"In one draft of the script, a reference to robin being related to rachel dawes was considered. The character of richard grayson was not explicitly mentioned, however rachel dawes is revealed as being a relative of the grayson family. Christopher nolan had it removed because he didn't want to build hopes up about the robin character appearing in a future film."

Also catwoman is going to be in tdkr wihc is next year as it is feb 2011 now
Catwoman shows that the nolan universe can expand in characters

ARRION @ Lol, I was joking, I don't mind Robin, though I reckon he should be set up for a BATMAN 4 when NOLAN leaves, makes more sense.

Still having BANE b4 NIGHTWING don't make no sense lol!

Man, we need that NIGHTWING movie or TV show WB!

Ok, I know Robin may not have to many fans, or may not seem to fit in in a "Batman" movie, but if there is ever a director to pull off a character such as Robin and make him fit in a real world w/the Batman it would be C.N.

I say "hell yea, Dick or Richard Grayson!" Robin is as much a big part of the history of Batman as is the Joker? C.N. can pull it off, (I believe in C.N.) maybe not so much as a duo doing the" Batrun down the streets of Gotham) but from a perspective of Robin rising up on his own doing the same exact thing as the Batman across G-town and the two working together (financially supported by Wayne) w/o really knowing too much about one another?

It would also open the DC world to more opportunities or the J.L.? That would be a fresh cross-over approach?

I would like to see little Dick Grayson in the next film, but not as Robin. In the next film, Grayson's folks could die and Bruce takes him in and by the end of the film the audience can wonder if future Batman films (possibly w/o Nolan) will include Robin.

But Dick Grayson should be introduced as a kid, not a full grown man like Chris O'Donnell or Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/5/2011, 11:44 AM
Woah, I wonder...

I like some incarnations of Robin but I doubt Nolan would use the kid. Maybe it#l be Nightwing?

Dmon - 2/5/2011, 11:45 AM
The only way I can see and would want to see Robin is if he was 13 or 14 years old not a man-child like Chris O'Donnell
ReillyParker
ReillyParker - 2/5/2011, 11:49 AM
I could see Robin, taking over for the time Bat's in out of commission without even knowing who Batman is or even being affiliated with him in any sense other than both being vigilantes, but then the movie might start focusing on Robin more than on Batman. That's my only fear if they take that route. I mean look at TDK, Joker pretty much stole the show from Bats. Robin can work if done right (Look at Robin's Reckoning in The Animated Series or just check out Dark Victory, both are amazing Robin origin stories), but Nolan's Trilogy is about Batman coming onto his own, not Robin. Robin should not come into the spotlight just yet... then again, who's to say Nolan can't develop both characters at the same time. Whatever he chooses to do we'll just have to trust him.
