TDKR: See What Bane Could Have Looked Like In New Concept Art

Some early concept designs for Tom Hardy's Bane are featured on the upcoming Blu-ray release of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, and we have a few snaps for you here. One design is definitely closer to the comic character's appearance, but would it have worked on film?..

The Dark Knight Rises hits DVD and Blu-ray on December 4th, but Screen Crush have gotten their hands on the following concept designs a little early..

And here is a behind the scenes snap of Hardy as Bane before his tattoos were digitally removed..

What do you think? Any of these designs take your fancy? Personally I think the final look was the best - by far! But I know there are some purists who would have preferred a more "Luchador" style mask like Bane wears in the comics.

I'm glad they went with the design that's in the film. Some of the ones here are kinda ridiculous.

I liked the last concept art and for ppl who say no way to any of them just remember what he looks like in the comics I can remember when the knightfall storyline came out in the early 90s it was gripping still one of my favourites so much so that I still read it from time to time.

I think Bane's final look suited the overall aesthetic tone of the series, and some of those concepts look really weird...

The comic version looks the best for the comics but Nolan's version is the better one when you have an actor.

Yes, I know Hugo Weaving did wonders behind a mask in V for Vendetta but Tom Hardy's Bane needed a show of face. So much of his performance came from slight facial expressions.

I like what we got. Tom Hardy was a perfect Bane, in my opinion. What he did to his muscles were incredible, he didn't need CGI to be a hulking monster. That picture of him with his tattoos and the image @Supes17 are amazing. Such a great performance.

did anyone else notice that Bane looks just like SubZero from Mortal Kombat without the hoody?

Uhm....why would they digitally remove his tatoos? See, they have this new thing called makeup.....

I like the first one. Bears some resemblance to the comics while looking like it could possibly work with a giant brute who was trained by the League of Shadows.

Spock

Lol. I remember being a kid in the 90s watching Star Wars Return of The Jedi and going WTF when Vader's mask was removed. I thought you were black or bad ass or deadly combination of the two! Who is this pale, soft spoken pussy!? lol. The prequels would explore that in detail only a few years later. haha.

The final costume is fine enough, it's memorable and also seems practical. Also think about the design of the character himself. He is supposed to appear as a revolutionary to the public, he also had to instill fears. The best part of the movie was Tom Hardy's amazing performance with both his voice and his eyes. Covering that would've been stupid.

BUUUUTTTTTT the protomask could've looked similar to that.

Looks great. I'm glad they went with the right one. I would've liked it more if they did something like this.

Costume Designer Lindy Hemming has an amazing resume: from Goldeneye to Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets... she did a wonderful job across the The Dark Knight Trilogy. Also... random thought... a villain as big as Bane deserved to be shown in IMAX. It's been months folks, I'm excited to see this film again!
