Ben Affleck On The Pressure Of Playing The Caped Crusader In BATMAN v SUPERMAN
What's more challenging? Living up to the expectations which come with starring in a big screen adaptation of best-selling novel Gone Girl or playing an iconic character like Batman? The answer won't surprise you! Ben Affleck also discusses donning the Batsuit...
In a recent interview with Variety, the trade asked Ben Affleck what he considers to be the bigger challenge: making sure that an adaptation of a beloved novel like Gone Girl does the source material justice or taking on a lead role in what they describe as the "greatest comic book franchise ever". Here's what he told them. "Probably the comicbook franchise, if only because Batman has been around since the 1930s and a fixed part of American culture. But, anytime you build a character when the audience has a firm belief on how it should be, like “Fifty Shades” or “Star Wars” … It can be an asset and a challenge. Anyone who did it would face that challenge. The truth is, it all melts away once people see the movie." Based on the borderline ridiculous reaction to Affleck being cast in the role, you can understand his position here, especially as we all know that the very vocal fanboys are forced to eat their words 99.9% of the time. As for the Batsuit, here's what the actor and director said about how it compares to past versions in terms of how constricting it is. "Well, I don’t know how the others have been. Anytime you have a costume that is restricting, the challenge is that it’s got to look good but not look restricting."
