Kevin Smith Says Some Interesting Things About BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Kevin Smith talks at a Hollywood Bubble-On podcast about the title of Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman vs Superman movie and also shares his thoughts on what Warner Bros. is doing with the project, and what their plans are.

Kevin Smith spoke about BvS during his podcast and, after stating his opinion about the official title, said where Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are going with this sequel. Of course, these are not official statements of WB/DC, and yet, Kevin Smith is a good friend of Ben Affleck (who will play Batman in the movie) and was pretty right when talking about the new Batsuit back in the day.

Here is what he said about the title:

“It’s a bit of a mouthful. And also, I don’t know why Batman V. Superman. Why not just throw the “s” in there? Or spell it or something like that. Or honestly, every comic book fan on the planet, who is a DC comic book fan, I think we all wanted to see Batman/Superman: World’s Finest.”

And this is what he said about the film in general:
“But look, they’re obviously beginning something, and there’s a stretch of these flick, and so this is the beginning of the Justice League, as we all suspected as they were announcing that cast. We were like, ‘This is the beginning of a Justice League movie.’ From what I understand now, it’s no longer like, ‘This is Superman 2.’ They’re not doing these things. They’re doing like, ‘Here’s Man of Steel. Here’s Batman/Superman: Dawn of Justice.’ The next one is not like a sequel to one of the characters. They’re just going to keep building their universe for about five or six movies. But all of them…it’s supposed to tell one massive story, which is all Justice League oriented".

What do you think about the idea of having five or six movies all telling and contributing to a Justice League oriented story? Do you agree with Smith's idea about the title of the film? Post your thoughts below.

Whats wrong with just calling it Dawn of Justice? Everybody who doesn't live in an Afghan cave will know that Batman and Superman are in it.

@Doopie

The only heros I'd worry about at this point is Lantern and Wonder Women. Both have had shaky starts to their movie/tv lives.......maybe Aquaman.

Huh, just JL films but focused mostly on one or two members at the time. I can dig it. It's a way to separate themselves from Marvel.

JL will be 100% the next movie after this one, no way for 6 films before JL. On ComicCon summer they will announce a JL movie as a next one WB/DC film

2 things one, its a V cause thats the legal term, i know it doesn't seem like it makes much sense, but the reason its like that is to show that batman is coming after superman. And it can't be called worlds finest cause its not a team up film smith.

Hmmmm....

Just rewatched "Secret Origins" from JL toon series..that style of met up works well. I hope this is true, we could get tons of nice intro scenes with various individual baddies..

I just like the idea that the Batman's Gotham is established and full of characters...we should just operate that way for everyone.

This is how I've been seeing it.
I think that Zack is literally just telling one epic superhero magnum opus. The guy that did the Watchmen movie is now gonna give us his Watchmen, but in movie form. It wouldn't surprise me if he did 12 of them.
I don't think that this means we can't have a Wonder Woman film or a Flash film directed by other people. All other DC films can be connected to the DCCU and even have their own sequels and such, but there would be one main throughline, which would be Zack's major series.
Think of it like Disney's new Star Wars plan. They have the main Star Wars films, episodes I-IX, but they are also gonna give us spin-offs.
I've never seen the sequel to Man of Steel as a Superman film (at least not since SDCC '13) But seriously, if you are gonna do a definitive superhero story in movie form, then you have to start with Superman. In fact you're probably gonna want to play on all of the DC archetypes. And a few of the Marvel ones, too, eventually.
I don't think it matters which studio you would try to do a definitive superhero magnum opus at. All of them have similar archetypes. If it were done at Disney it would probably start in a Supreme Power fashion, with Hyperion coming to Earth.
So Man of Steel is the first part of the story. Now we are gonna see the atypical superhero through a glass darkly. We will see the dark, human, revolutionary, outlaw vigilante archetype. That sets up the balance. Man and Superman.
It's interesting to think of where Zack could take this.
Obviously a Batman spin-off directed by Ben Affleck would be movie gold, too.
